Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the semi-equine that draws the chariot of Poseidon?

Answer: Hippocampos

Hippocampos (which remains the modern Greek word for 'sea-horse') was a horse with the tail of a fish instead of its hindquarters and back legs.
2. What mount was Bellerophon riding when he was thrown from its back, leaving him crippled for the rest of his life?

Answer: Pegasus

Pegasus, the winged horse, sprang from the neck of Medusa when Perseus cut off her head. He was instrumental in Bellerophon's slaying of the Chimera (which beast was, according to one of three attested versions of Medusa's parentage, a close relation to Pegasus himself). After throwing Bellerophon, Pegasus flew on to Olympus where he served Zeus by bearing his lightning bolts.
3. What was extraordinary about the four horses of Diomedes?

Heracles fetched the mares for Eurystheus as his fifth Labor. They became docile after eating Diomedes.

Answer: It has seven heads.

In some depictions, the chariot is drawn by seven normal horses.

Answer: Aonbharr

Aonbharr of the one mane could gallop on water as fast as the spring wind.
6. What was the name of the fabulous horse that, according to legend, bore the prophet Mohammed up to heaven and back?

Depending how many of the four brothers wanted to ride, it would change its size to accommodate them.
