Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The show "Oklahoma" opens with a single voice from offstage (eventually the singer walks onstage) singing which song?

Answer: Oh What A Beautiful Morning

When "Oklahoma" first opened, other shows at the time were known for their skimpy costumes and amazing spectacle. Frequently the curtain would come up just enough to see 'lots of legs' dancing during the opening number. "Oklahoma" opened with an older woman churning butter, birds chirping, and someone starting a pretty song from the wings.
2. Which character sang the song "Oh What a Beautiful Morning"?

Answer: Curly McLain

Curly MacLain sings this song on his way to ask Laurey Williams to the box social.
3. Who lives in the smokehouse on Laurey's property?

Answer: Jud Fry

Jud lives in the smokehouse on Laurey's property because he's in her employ as a farmhand.
4. Will Parker sings, "I gotta get a _______ and it's gotta be quick, or I'll jump in a crick and DIE!"

Answer: kiss

Will sings this to Ado Annie upon seeing her for the first time after returning from Kansas City.
5. Ado Annie's father Andrew, told Will Parker that he could only marry Annie if he had something. What did he need to have?

Answer: $50

In order to get the money, Will goes to Kansas City to win a calf roping contest for the grand prize of $50.
6. Who would Andrew Carnes like his daughter to marry?

Answer: Ali Hakim

Andrew thinks Ali Hakim (the peddler man) makes plenty of money to support his daughter, and doesn't even mind that he'd take her away to travel the countryside.
7. Who finally wins Ado Annie's hand in marriage?

Answer: Will Parker

Will stupidly spends his entire $50 on presents for Ado Annie and her father. Ali Hakim, who desperately wants out of a potential marriage to Ado, pays Will $50 for everything he purchased. When the times comes to bid on baskets, Will accidentally bids his fifty dollars for Ado Annie's basket, forcing the peddler to bid $51 dollars so Will can keep his money and gain permission to marry Annie.
8. What does Jud Fry have on the walls of the smokehouse?

Answer: naked pictures

Laurey feels uncomfortable going to the smokehouse, not only because Jud makes her nervous, but because he has naked pictures on his walls!
9. What does the 'Little Wonder' do that makes it so unique?

Answer: It shows dirty pictures then sticks a knife into your eye.

The "Little Wonder" looks like an innocent little kaleidoscope, but it has a nasty secret. When you looks through it you see dirty pictures, but when you turn it to see more, a little knife pops out of the eye piece and gets the viewer in the eye.
10. Curly takes Laurey to the box social in a beautiful "surrey with the fringe on top".

Answer: False

Laurey thinks Curly's lying about the surrey and turns down his offer to go to the party with him. She ends up going with Jud while Aunt Eller rides in the surrey.
11. Will Parker tells Ado Annie, "A Persian Goodbye is nothing compared to..."

Answer: an Oklahoma Hello!

Ali Hakim was dipping Ado Annie, kissing her calling it a "Persian Goodbye," causing her to swoon a little bit. So Will Parker flips her over and gives her a big ol' kiss, calling it an "Oklahoma Hello!"
12. Complete the lyric: "Cowboys dance with the farmer's ________, farmers dance with the rancher's _________!"

Answer: daughters, gals

During the song "The Farmer and the Cowman" Aunt Eller is trying to stop the rivalry of Farmers and cowboys by singing: "Territory folks should stick together, territory folks should all be pals. Cowboys dance with the farmers daughters, farmers dance with the rancher's gals!"
13. Who originally choreographed Oklahoma?

Answer: Agnes De Mille

Agnes De Mille developed a very unique style of dancing for "Oklahoma." She knew farmers and cowboys wouldn't be professional dancers, so she tried to make all of the dancing seem very rustic to match the characters.
14. Who played Curly McLain on Broadway in the 2002 revival?

Answer: Patrick Wilson

Patrick Wilson, of "The Full Monty" fame, revived the role of Curly on Broadway in 2002.
15. What celebrity played the part of Curly MacLaine in the 2001 London cast?

Answer: Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman was playing Curly McLain in London when he was asked to do "X-Men." When given the choice between Broadway and Hollywood, Jackman chose Hollywood.
