Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Could a vegan eat durian?

Answer: Yes

A durian is a smelly Southeast Asian fruit. Eating it is fine...just hold your nose!
2. Could a vegan wear a cotton "cheongsam"?

Answer: Yes

A beautiful and flattering Asian garment, a cheongsam is vegan-acceptable when made of cotton, but not when it is made of silk.
3. Could a vegan eat sweetbreads?

Answer: No

Sweetbreads are an animal's thymus (gland) or pancreas.
4. Would a strictly vegan person wear spandex?

Spandex is man-made...a relief to gym- and beach-going vegans everywhere.
5. Could a vegan eat royal jelly?

Answer: No

Used as a dietary supplement, royal jelly is made by bees. Honey is also forbidden.
6. Could a vegan person wear astrakhan?

Answer: No

Astrakhan is the curly pelt of a newborn Persian lamb.
7. Could a strict vegan have a shot of vodka?

Answer: Yes

Absolutely. As per the Vegan Society website:
"The production of spirits does not appear to involve the use of animal substances."

Although beer and wine are made from plants, they are often clarified using animal substances. There are vegan-friendly varieties available, though.
8. Could a vegan eat quinoa?

Answer: Yes

Quinoa is an ancient, extremely nutritious seed that can be eaten like oatmeal.
9. Could a vegan eat organic Tilsit?

Answer: No

When used as a food item instead of a place name, Tilsit means only one thing: cheese.
10. And finally, we arrive at the aba. It's a useful Scrabble word, but could a strict vegan wear OR eat it?

Answer: No

Well, we certainly wouldn't want to be eating it...nor would a vegan wear it. An aba is a loose-fitting garment woven of the hair of camels or goats.

Thank you for taking my quiz, and may a bounty of fruits and veggies be yours.
