Answer: A prostitute

Ruth met her in Amsterdam. She was looking for inspiration for her new book "My Last Bad Boyfriend." It called for the woman in the story to be pressured by her boyfriend into watching a prostitute "work". The boyfriend wants this because he finds this sort of activity "stimulating".
2. What did Ruth hit Scott with?

Answer: Her Squash Racket

Ruth did this because Scott forced himself on her (while she was on the phone with her current boyfriend!)and after Ruth showed her anger, Scott gave her a quick, solid hit to the floor. Ruth got up and gave him a taste of his own medicine.
3. Who was Allen?

Answer: Ruth's first husband

Allen Albright was also Ruth's editor. He was significantly older than her. He died while he and Ruth were sleeping in their bed.
4. How did Ted die?

Answer: He comitted suicide

He died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Ruth blames herself for her father's death after she finally beat Ted at squash.
5. Who was Ruth's second husband?

Answer: Harry Hoestra

Harry was a police officer in Amsterdam at the Red Light District. He tracked down Ruth to the U.S because she (anonymously) gave evidence to solve the murder of Rooie.
6. Which of the following is true about Eddie O'Hare?

Answer: After Marion, Eddie always prefered older women.

Ted said to Ruth that Eddie never got over Marion. "Sixty Times" (one of the books Eddie wrote) was all about their sexual relatonship. Towards the end of the book, Eddie was attracted to Ruth but quickly got over it when he saw how happy Ruth was with Harry. The other two are nonsense.

Answer: "Come Hither Boys and Become Men."

This is on a picture of Marion's dead sons Timothy and Thomas at Exeter High School.
8. Which is one of Ted's books?

Answer: The Door in the Floor

"Sixty Times" was a novel by Eddie O'Hare, Ted's other book was "A Sound Trying Not to Make a Sound." "Two Sisters" was a novel I made up...
This book scared Eddie as a child and as an adult.
9. Who is Ruth's best friend?

Answer: Hannah

Hannah is a journalist. She also slept with Ted...Her Best Friend's Father! She and Ruth had a secret code if they thought a guy was hot.. It was "Do you hear that sound? It's my panties sliding to the ground." They made this up when Ruth told Hannah that you could hear the women's panties (Ted's "clients") sliding to the ground. Eddie thinks this is very vulgar...
10. What was Marion's job at the end of the novel?

Answer: Writer

This was an excellent surprise. Marion always aspired to be a writer and after she left her toddler and husband for thirty-some years she accomplished this.
