Answer: Orochimaru

Orochimaru was one of the three Legendary Sannin along with Jiraiya and Tsunade. He joined Akatsuki shortly after defecting from Konoha. He met Itachi Uchiha and tried to take over his body so he could possess the Sharingan, but Itachi stopped Orochimaru and cut off his hand as punishment.

In chapter 267, Chiyo and Sakura Haruno were fighting Sasori of the Red Sand, a puppet master notorious for making puppets out of human bodies, giving the puppets retention of their chakra and techniques. Sasori joined Akatsuki some 20 years before his encounter with his grandma Chiyo and Sakura, and also managed to turn himself into a human puppet. Although the duo defeat Sasori, Chiyo gives her life to Gaara in order to repay her debts of selfishness.

Asuma was killed by Hidan's immortality/voodoo curse and dies in chapter 327, Jiraiya was killed by Pain in chapter 382 after a long and bloody battle, and Chiriku was killed easily by Hidan and Kakuzu at the Fire Temple in chapter 314.

Each member has their own ring which is worn on a different finger by a different Akatsuki member. Perhaps the ring is to aid with the extraction of the demons (bijuu) from their hosts. Every Akatsuki member can also be identified by a long black cloak with red clouds, and fingernails painted black.

Tobi was once Zetsu's subordinate but after finding Sasori's ring becomes Deidara's new partner. Perhaps one of the most controversial and mysterious characters of the series, Tobi is characterized as goofy and aloof and wears a spiral mask with an eyehole for his right eye.

As far as we know, the only two characters that can use Chidori are Sasuke Uchiha and Kakashi Hatake, creator of the technique. Itachi was involved with a massacre of his entire clan by orders of the third Hokage. He is the most skilled in the Uchiha clan, graduating from the Academy at age seven, activating his Sharingan at age eight, and going into ANBU at age 13.

His techniques, which all revolve around his Mangekyou Sharingan, include Tsukiyomi, which involves genjutsu; Amaterasu, which shoots out black fireballs that cannot be extinguished, and Susanoo, which summons a massive ethereal warrior that can attack and defend Itachi.

Itachi reveals all his techniques in his final battle with Sasuke from chapters 383 to 394.

Kakuzu can hold up to five hearts in his body, thus extending his lifespan to almost an indefinite period of time. Whenever his organs gets old he kills people and takes their organs while the host is still alive. Because of this he can use all five elements: water, fire, earth, wind, and lightning.

Hidan became immortal through a secret technique known only to Jashin followers; however he must continually kill people, or he will eventually lose his immortality. Hidan is very disrespectful and often curses, be he friend or foe. He carries with him a huge scythe that is meant to draw blood from his enemy, after which he assumes a grim reaper-like figure and draws the Jashin symbol, and becomes a voodoo doll for his opponent. Hidan then stabs himself in nonvital places at first to torture his enemies; afterward with a quick thrust to the heart he finishes his enemy off.

After the battle he performs a 30 minute ritual to Jashin. His hot-blooded temper and rashness often irritate his impatient and calculating partner, Kakuzu.

Answer: Zetsu

Zetsu is the only shinobi to operate alone; the rest of them work with a partner. Zetsu is two-faced, with one half of his side black, and the other half white. The two sides often converse to one another, and have different personalities. Zetsu is first seen in chapter 234 as a spectator to Sasuke and Naruto's fight in the Valley of the End. Zetsu is enveloped by a venus fly trap, and can devour bodies that Akatsuki does not want others to find. Zetsu's technique "Leech All Creation: Attack Prevention" (Hiru Bansho: Boka no Jutsu) technique allows him to assimilate with plants and travel anywhere within a matter of seconds.

Answer: Rin'negan

Pain is the only person to have the Rin'negan other than the Six-Path Sage, who was the founder of ninjutsu itself. Pain as a child was an apprentice of Jiraiya in Amegakure following a civil war, along with Yahiko and Konan. Known as Nagato as the time, his Rin'negan first appeared when he defended Yahiko from a Iwagakure Chuunin. According to chapter 420: "Battlefield: Konoha", Pain has five bodies, because the sixth one was killed by Jiraiya and sent to Tsunade for her to perform an autopsy. It is possible that Pain has more bodies, because as Jiraiya hints, the real Pain/Nagato was not present at the battle.

Answer: Tobi

Tobi is the real leader of Akatsuki, as he is shone in the manga giving Pain orders. Apart from Pain, Konan, and possibly Kisame, no one knows the Tobi is the real leader. Tobi refers to himself as Madara Uchiha, the founder of the Uchiha clan, and along with his brother, the first to activate the Mangeyko Sharingan.

The Kyuubi (9-tailed demon fox) remarked to Sasuke that Madara's chakra is more sinister than his own. Tobi's face is always concealed behind his mask, and many fans have suspected that Tobi's body is that of Obito, because Obito gave his left Sharingan to Kakashi, and Tobi only has his right Sharingan. Also the name Tobi is similar to that of Obito.
