Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following names was Miss Emily Brent convinced was the signature on the bottom of her invitation?

Answer: Oliver

"There had been that nice middle-aged woman - Miss - Miss - now what was her name? - her father had been a canon. And there had been a Mrs Olten - Ormen - no, surely it was Oliver! Yes - Oliver".

Miss Brent could not read the signature at the bottom of her invitation and presumed it was "Oliver".
2. What was the name of the actress who was rumoured to have bought Soldier Island?

Answer: Gabrielle Turl

Beatrice Taylor, Lucy Combes and Louisa Mary Clees were victims of the "Soldiers" murders. Beatrice Taylor was killed by Miss Emily Brent, Lucy Combes by Tony Marston and Louisa Mary Clees by Dr Armstrong.
3. From what were the ten figures on the mansion's dining table made?

Answer: China

"In the centre of the round table, on a circular glass stand, were some little china figures".

Each of the little china figures - although unknown to the "Soldiers" at this point - represented one of them.
4. Who was William Henry Blore guilty of murdering?

Answer: James Landor

Mr Blore, according to the gramophone record, killed James Landor. Arthur Richmond was killed by General Macarthur, Jennifer Brady by the Rogers and Edward Seton by Justice Wargrave.
5. Emily Brent is the niece of whom?

Answer: Tom

'Emily Brent, too - actually a niece of Tom Brent of the Regiment".

Nothing very important in the story, but I added it for a bit of trivia :)
6. Justice Wargrave was found dead dressed in a red curtain and a judge's wig. Where did these items come from?

Answer: The bathroom and Miss Brent's wool

"Miss Brent's missing grey wool... and the scarlet curtain that was missing from the bathroom..."

This was all part of a sick trick of Wargrave's...
7. A marble bear clock killed Mr Blore. Whose window did it come from?

Answer: Vera Claythorne's

"Who's is that window just above?"
Vera said in a low shuddering voice:
"It's mine - and that's the clock from my mantelpiece...I remember now. It was - shaped like a bear."

Following the rhyme that killed all the other "Soldiers", Mr Blore was hugged by a bear at the "zoo".

"Three little soldier boys walking in the zoo, a big bear hugged one and then there were two".
8. When Vera Claythorne was the only "Soldier" alive, she returned to the mansion. She went to the dining table and found how many soldier figures?

Answer: Three

"She paused by the dining-room door. There were still three little china figures in the middle of the table".

The killer didn't have time to go smash Blore's and Lombard's figures and also did not want to frighten Vera. Therefore she smashed the other two and took her own.
9. Vera Claythorne, dazed and slightly confused, went up to her bedroom, and first thought that the last line of the nursery rhyme was what?

Answer: He got married and then there were none

" 'One little soldier boy left all alone.' How did it end? Oh, yes! 'He got married and then there were none' ".

Vera Claythorne thought this was all thought up by Hugo and was waiting for him to appear and save her.
10. Justice Wargrave was later announced the murderer of the "Soldiers". He wrote a document explaining what he did and how he accomplished the murders. How did he send the document?

Answer: He put the document in a bottle and let it out in the sea

"The practice of throwing a bottle into the sea with an important document inside was one that never failed to thrill me when reading adventure stories as a child. It thrills me still - and for that reason I have adopted this course - writing my confession, enclosing it in a bottle, sealing the latter, and casting it into the waves".

Justice Wargrave thought someone might find the letter by chance and sent the details of the mystery into the sea.
