Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which two Shakespeare plays were used as a loose foundation piece for "Breaking Dawn"?

Answer: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The Merchant of Venice"

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" was referenced at places in this novel and was used as a loose comparison to the storyline of this book. "The Merchant of Venice" is the play from which Alice tore the copyright page to write her note about leaving the Cullen family, when she learned the Volturi were coming for them. Stephenie Meyer also cites on her website that she used this as the basis for the final "battle" in this novel.
2. Who or what served as the theme for Bella and Edward's wedding, according to Bella?

Answer: Edward

Though it was said at the end of Eclipse that the dress Alice chose for Bella was reminiscent of Anne of Green Gables, Bella commented in "Breaking Dawn" that the theme of the wedding was actually Edward himself. All of the dresses, floral arrangements, etc. were meant to look like something from the early 1900s, since this is when Edward was born.
3. Where did Edward take Bella for their honeymoon?

Answer: Isle Esme

Edward received permission from Carlisle to use the island that he'd once bought for Esme as a gift. It is located off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
4. What term does Bella use to refer to her unborn child?

Answer: little nudger

Bella uses the term "little nudger" after the first time she feels her child kick. Several negative terms are used by Edward, Jacob and other members of the Cullen family when they fear the child will kill Bella. They tend to use the term "fetus" in front of Bella because no one can bear to call it a "baby", but they also don't want to upset Bella any more than she already is.
5. What is the full name of Bella and Edward's daughter?

Answer: Renesmee Carlie Cullen

Renesmee is a combination of the names of Bella's biological mother, Renee, and Edward's adoptive mother, Esme. Carlie is a combination of the names of Edward's adoptive father, Carlisle, and Bella's biological father, Charlie.
6. What finally causes Bella to attack Jacob after she's been turned into a vampire?

Answer: She learns he nicknamed her daughter after the Loch Ness Monster.

Bella has no problem controlling herself from the scent of Jacob when she first sees him after her change. (She actually makes a comment about how she understands what the other vampires were saying before about him smelling bad as a werewolf.) Later, while she gets very upset about learning of Jacob's imprinting on Renesmee, she is able to control herself until he refers to the baby as "Nessie".

This causes her to lose it and go for his throat.
7. What is Renesmee's special skill?

Answer: She can show others her thoughts and memories by touching them.

While she can walk early and survive on either blood or human food, Renesmee's special talent is that she can communicate by showing others her thoughts through touch. Carlisle comments that this is a reverse version of Edward's skill of reading people's thoughts.
8. What special ability does Bella discover she has, after changing into a vampire?

Answer: She can shield herself and others from attacks to the mind.

Originally it was thought that Bella's talent was her self-control since she was able to run from the scent of human blood on her first night as a newborn vampire. But later, Eleazar (one of the Denali coven who has the ability to sense the special abilities of other vampires) suggests that Bella is actually a Shield.

After much practice, she is able to project this shield that encases her mind to cover all those who stand near to her. She uses this talent to ward of the attacks of the Volturi guardsmen, Alec and Jane.
9. What names and ages does Bella choose for the fake documents she purchases so that Jacob and Renesmee will be able to escape the Volturi?

Answer: Jacob Wolfe, 27 and Vanessa Wolfe, 5

She chooses the last name "Wolfe" because she believes Jacob will appreciate the reference to his ability to shape-shift. She chooses the name "Vanessa" for Renesmee because she feels it's closest to the nickname she's inherited, Nessie.
10. What is the name of the hybrid vampire boy who Alice finds to save them from the Volturi by standing as witness?

Answer: Nahuel

Once the Volturi hear Nahuel tell his story, and determine that the secret of the vampires is safe with Renesmee, they return to Italy leaving everyone unharmed. Zafrina and Senna are two other vampires from Brazil, the region where Alice was able to find Nahuel. Makenna was a vampire acting as witness to the Volturi.
