Children of Amarid Trivia Quiz

The first book by David B Coe. This is the first book in the "Lon Tobyn Chronicles". In my opinion this is a great book that not many seem to have read.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the Children of Amarid?

Answer: Mages

Mages, of course, named after the man who helped found the Order of Mages and Masters.
2. Which person helped create the Order, with Amarid?

Answer: Theron

If only the friendship between the two hadn't been ruined by a woman they might have talked about the differences and ruled the mage craft together.
3. What color cloaks do the Children of Amarid wear?

Answer: Green

Not sure why green, it's never really explained but, hey, green is good color!
4. What are the three things needed to become a mage?

Answer: the potential, the hawk (or bird), and the ceryll

The potential has to be there for you to bond to the hawk, which increases your power to where you can use it. After you are bound you can be admitted to the Order, but the ceryll helps to focus your power.
5. What was Phelan's bond-mate?

Answer: Wolf

He was the only one in the history of the Order to bond to something other than a bird.
6. What was Theron's Curse?

Answer: Unbound mages become trapped as ghosts

The Unbound mages were trapped where they bonded with their first bird.
7. What kind of bird did Jaryd and Alayna bond to?

Answer: Amarid's Hawk

Amarid's Hawk, named after the father of the order.
8. What is the title of the Order's leader?

Answer: Owl-Sage

The owl-masters vote on which of their rank will rise to Owl-Sage on the death of the former one.
9. Which of the following is NOT a rank within the Order?

Answer: Fist of the Sage

First of the Sage is a position that is filled by whomever the Owl-Sage chooses and his duties vary based on what the Owl-Sage wants or needs him to do. Mage Attend is when it is known you have the power but have yet to bond to a bird. Hawk Mage is reached when you bond to your first bird and swear to uphold Amarid's Laws. Owl Master is reached once you bond to an owl. So Fist of the Sage is not a position within the Order.
10. Which of Amarid's Laws had Sartol broken when the book began?

Answer: I shall never use my powers to extract service or payment from the powerless

By the end of the book all of the laws were broken but long before this book started he had made the people he served pay him. After the Order punished him he returned to the same area to continue serving, which allowed many to think he was truly sorry.
