Answer: The Mediterranean Caper

Also known as "Mayday!", this book was published in 1973. Though it was published first, it is actually the second book in the Dirk Pitt adventure series.
2. Which title, though published later, is the actual chronological starting point of the Dirk Pitt series?

Answer: Pacific Vortex!

Though "Pacific Vortex!" was published in 1981, it was written before the others, and the events and story occur earlier than those in "The Mediterranean Caper", which is also known as "Mayday!".
3. What is the title of the first Clive Cussler novel to be turned into a movie?

Answer: Raise the Titanic!

"Raise the Titanic!" was such an abysmal failure that Clive swore he would never again allow anybody to turn one of his books into a movie, unless he had control over cast, script, and director. At one point he turned down $10 million for the movie rights to his books.
4. What does the abbreviation NUMA stand for, within Clive's novels?

Answer: National Underwater and Marine Agency

Clive Cussler founded NUMA in actuality in 1979. It is a non-profit group dedicated to preserving maritime heritage, and is recognized internationally. Most of the funding for the projects comes from the royalties of Clive Cussler's books.
5. What is the name of Dirk Pitt's first great love?

Answer: Summer Moran

After saving Dirk's life, Summer went to search for her father in a series of underground caves. The caves collapsed, and Summer never saw Dirk again. It is found out much later, however that she survived, and had twins, a boy (Dirk) and a girl (Summer).
6. What part did Clive's daughter Dayna play in the movie version of "Sahara"?

Answer: Aviatrix Kitty Manock

Though she played and was filmed in the role of Kitty Manock, Dayna's scenes were eventually removed from the film in editing. Her name does, however, appear in the credits.
7. Clive has written books about his adventures in finding notable shipwrecks. What are the books entitled?

Answer: Sea Hunters

Clive has had a show on the National Geographic and History Channels by the same name, documenting his finds. The show was produced by Eco-Nova Prodcutions, Canada.

Answer: State University of New York

Dr. Cussler's Doctor of Letters degree was awarded in May of 1997. It was the first time since the college was founded in 1874 that the Board of Directors bestowed such a degree.

Answer: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is 626 lines long, and is divided into seven parts. In the book, the villian betrayed himself by being able to quote a key section of the poem, using only three words as a hint.

Answer: Kurt Austin

First appearing in the novel "Serpent", Kurt Austin is a new addition to the NUMA gang, with a CIA past. With his partner Joe Zavala, he has many adventures which require the skills he learned as a government operative.
