Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sophie, upon seeing that the figure on Jesus' right hand side is a woman, cannot believe that nobody noticed this discrepancy. Robert Langdon described this phenomenon as what?

Answer: scotoma

As used in the book, scotoma is the phenomenon where our preconceptions of a scene, act or view blocks us from realizing what our eyes actually see. This is what Robert was explaining that Sophie experienced when looking at the mural of the "Last Supper" at Chateau Villette.
2. At the start of the book, Robert Langdon was being introduced as the guest speaker at the conference. What magazine did the emcee show and read to the audience to introduce him?

Answer: Boston Magazine

For whatever it's worth, that magazine's depiction of Langdon as "Harrison Ford in Harris tweed" may have conjured visions of Harrison Ford playing the part for the movie. Alas, it was Tom Hanks who got the role.
3. In one flashback scene in the book, Robert Langdon was discussing Symbology with a bunch of prisoners; which Egyptian god did he ask about?

Answer: Amon

Amon, the Egyptian god of masculine fertility is found on every box of Amon condoms. Whether this product is actually available is subject to investigation.
4. When Sophie and Robert were looking for clues at the "Mona Lisa", what other Leonardo painting was in the Salle des Etats, directly opposite the "Mona Lisa"?

Answer: Madonna of the Rocks

Interestingly, there are two (2) Madonnas of the Rocks - one in the Louvre, the other at the National Gallery in London.
5. During their escape from Chateau Villette to Le Bourget airfield, what type of vehicle did they take?

Answer: Range Rover

The Range Rover was Java Black Pearl, four-wheel drive, standard transmission. It's the perfect vehicle for going over rough terrain, which was what they passed through.
6. What was the name of Sir Leigh Teabing's executive jet?

Answer: Elizabeth

Elizabeth was a Hawker 731 with twin Garrett TFE-731 engines. "Beats the Bloody Chunnel" according to Sir Leigh.
7. What is the name of that mysterious city being mentioned in the "Book of Jeremiah"?

Answer: Sheshach

After applying the Atbash cipher to the name, it turns out that the city of Sheshach is actually the city of Babel, as in the the Tower of Babel.
8. Where did Bishop Aringarosa take possession of the twenty million euros as payment for Opus Dei's services to the Vatican?

Answer: Castel Gandolfo

In the book, Castel Gandolfo also houses the Biblioteca Astronomica or the Vatican's Astronomy Library. In reality, the Vatican Observatory is located there, along with its astronomical library.
9. What device, built by Jacques Sauniere from a design by Leonardo, was used to keep the secrets of the Priory?

Answer: cryptex

The cryptex's mechanism works the same way as a bicycle lock, letters or numbers have to be aligned correctly to open it. However, there's no evidence that Leonardo invented a device similar to the book's cryptex.
10. When Silas found the hollow space at the foot of the obelisk at Saint Sulpice, the tablet had a verse inscribed into it. What was that verse?

Answer: Job 38:11

Job 38:11 says " Hitherto Shalt Thou Come, But No Further". We all know what John 3:16 is. Psalms 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible (176 verses). Exodus 15 talks about Moses parting the Red Sea.
