Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Someone was on the hunt, shooting innocents. What type of innocent was the common thread in these targets?

Answer: shifters

The first person shot was also killed. It was a nineteen year old girl named Heather Kinman. Then, Calvin Norris of Hotshot was shot in the chest on his way to work. Finally, Sam was shot outside of Merlotte's, with Sookie there to witness and call for help. Calvin's injury was very serious, but he did recover.

The shooter's M.O. was not clear to local law enforcement, as they did not know about the existence of shifters. Sookie alerted Alcide when he came to town to ask her to accompany him to a funeral. Sookie was shot later in the book, as she had smelled like a shifter to the killer.
2. What was the ethnicity of Dawson, the guard outside of Calvin Norris' hospital room?

Answer: werewolf

Dawson was a huge shifter built like a construction worker. Jason took Sookie to see Calvin at the hospital, but Calvin would only let Sookie enter his room. While inside, Calvin revealed to her that his community (werepanthers) suspected newly changed Jason of being the shooter.

She begged Calvin to protect Jason from persecution and death, and explained his exhilaration at his new shifter status. It was also strange to see a werewolf guarding the room of a werepanther, as the wolves saw themselves as the true Weres.

The killer shot Dawson while he was protecting Sookie.
3. How did Colonel Flood die?

Answer: in an auto accident

He was hit by another vehicle while driving his own. Alcide brought Sookie with him to the funeral, which was also a campaign opener for the new pack master for Shreveport. The possibility was there that Flood's accident hadn't been an accident at all. Alcide's father was vying for position as pack master along side a man named Patrick Furnan.

The cruciatus curse is one of the unforgivable curses from the "Harry Potter" novels.
4. Claudine saved Sookie the night her house was on fire.

Answer: True

Claudine the fairy arrived just in time to save Sookie. She woke her from a sound sleep and allowed Sookie to get safely out of the house. Sookie, being practical and fore-thinking, ran back inside as soon as she got the chance. She closed the doors between the kitchen and the rest of the house and grabbed her purse. Claudine saved her from that decision as well, getting her out of the house twice in one night.

In book four, "Dead to the World", Claudine had appeared just as mysteriously inside Sookie's car and woke her while she was driving. Claudine has a brother name Claude, and she uses the last name of Crane when necessary.

The vampire staying with Sookie killed a man outside her house after the fire was underway.
5. Sookie borrowed a bartender from Fangtasia on Sam's behalf. He was injured from his bullet wound and needed a favor from Eric. What was Charles Twining's (the bartender) unique character?

Answer: he was a pirate

Yes, Charles was a real pirate! He was English, short and thin, and reminded me of Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean". Sookie liked him because he was the calmest vampire she'd met to date. He stayed at the bar at first, but Sam convinced Sookie to let him stay at her house. Charles discovered Bill creeping around Sookie's place on the night of the fire, but Bill assured he was just being protective.

The term "shimmer" is a reference to the TV series "Charmed". On that show demons could shimmer from one place to another.
6. Which of these people did Sookie NOT stay with after her house was burned?

Answer: She did not stay with ANY of these people

She stayed with Bill and Jason very briefly before Sam offered her the use of one of his rent homes. She did borrow Tara's old car, and declined Alcide's offer to come live with him as a couple. Terry Bellefleur tore down her burned sections and took them to the dump, for which she paid him fairly.
7. How did Sookie get Eric to intercede on Tara's behalf to rid herself of Mickey the vampire?

Answer: she traded a favor for a favor

In "Club Dead", book three, Sookie had discovered that her long time friend Tara Thornton was dating a vampire named Franklin Mott. Mott, having fed off of Tara, had become tuned into her true feelings. Though he'd normally not care much about her true feelings, he'd most likely not enjoyed the knowledge that she loved his gifts more than being with him.

He'd easily traded her off to Mickey, an opportunistic sadist. Sookie stayed out of it as long as she could, and finally sought Eric's help to rid Tara of Mickey.

He wanted Sookie to reveal the true events of his time with amnesia, so she told him everything. Eric called Mickey's sire, that irritated Mickey, and Mickey attacked Sookie and Eric.
8. Who did the serial killer turn out to be?

Answer: Sweetie

Sweetie Des Arts, former stripper, had been bitten following a car accident. Sweetie was the new part time cook at Merlotte's, which has never ended well in the past. It was Charles who'd told Sookie the stripper part, but Sweetie revealed herself as the killer the night Sam and Sookie went sniffing (literally) for clues.

She shot Dawson as he approached, and Andy shot her in the back. Portia had been with Sookie when she was shot herself. Though, Sweetie was not the one who shot Sam...
9. Charles Twining, borrowed bartender, was a hit man (but not the serial killer) and the one who shot Sam.

Answer: True

Eric sent Bubba to Bon Temps so he could warn Sookie that Charles the pirate was a hit man for Hot Rain. Hot Rain was still mad that Eric had staked Long Shadow (back in book one), and sent Charles to collect a perceived debt. Charles waited and listened, and finally determined that killing Sookie would injure Eric the same way Hot Rain had felt injured.

When Charles attacked Sookie in Merlotte's, the bar's patrons defended her. Charles told the group he'd failed and would rather die than be jailed, so Catfish Hunter staked him!
10. It was nothing unusual when Sookie encountered another mysterious and sexy man. She first saw Quinn at Colonel Flood's elaborate funeral, and again at the contest for packmaster. Which powerful animal was it that Quinn shifted into?

Answer: tiger

Quinn was an enormous man/shifter with very little visible body hair. Sookie admired him a bit from a distance at the funeral. But, when she encountered him at the contest, she got to know him better. He was the referee for Jackson Herveaux and Patrick Furnan. Sookie became injured during the third trial and Quinn helped to heal her.

She felt an instant attraction to him, and he to her, during that process. It was my guess, while reading that part, that Quinn was a tiger when he changed. It was Sam Merlotte that confirmed this for Sookie.

She worked later that day, but was still melancholy over the death of Alcide's father Jackson. Sam asked her (with disdain) when and why she'd spent time around a tiger that day. Sam and Sookie's attraction had flamed brightly again in this novel, but Sookie remained celibate throughout. I hope to read more about Quinn in the next book, "Definitely Dead".
