Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What colour do Death's eyes glow?

Answer: blue

Just like Gandalf is the prototype wizard, Discworld's Death is THE anthropomorphic personification of Death: tall and skeletal, with black robes, a scythe, a sword, small caps voice...a butler, a granddaughter, and a love for curry.
2. What is the name of Death's horse?

Answer: Binky

Binky is a living white horse. Death got rather tired of the old skeletal horse, which kept falling apart, and the flaming horse, which continuously burnt down the stables.
3. What type of household pet is Death fond of?

Answer: cats

Death also likes bees and peacocks.
4. What is the name of Death's residence?

Answer: Mon Repos

Strangely enough, Death's fascination with all things human has given him the need to have a house and garden, located in Death's Domain and built more for appearance than function and coloured in shades of black. In Pratchett's words, "But there was an oddness on a human level. Everything was just slightly wrong, as if it had been made by someone who hadn't fully comprehended its purpose."
5. Before becoming Death's manservant, what occupation did Albert have?

Answer: wizard

Alberto Malich was a wizard and the founder of Unseen University. His quest for immortality succeeded somewhat when he performed the Rite of AshkEnte, the spell to summon Death, backwards and found himself in Death's Domain, where Time is at a standstill.

While Albert has his idiosyncrasies, including the need to have all foods deep-fried (including porridge!) to rid the germs, he has been an indispensible sidekick, often helping Death out of scrapes when he becomes too interested in humanity; Albert is pretty much a Jeeves. And what with helping Death and needing to buy groceries in the Discworld, as well as frequenting the soap and bath, Albert's original remaining 91 days, 3 hours, and 5 minutes have been reduced to barely 5 seconds.
6. What is the name of Death's granddaughter?

Answer: Susan

Pratchett pokes fun of genetics with his character Susan Sto Helit because she inherits characteristics from Death and a scar from her father that, in our world, cannot be passed on genetically. Susan is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sto Helit; formerly Mortimer, Death's sometime apprentice, and Ysabell, Death's adopted daughter. Susan has a way with children, so she's been a governess and is now a schoolteacher.
7. Who shoes Death's horse?

Answer: Jason Ogg

Jason Ogg is the eldest son of Nanny Ogg and a Lancre blacksmith. Like his father was obligated, Jason's job requires that he shoe anything. Jason uses a specially reserved metal for Binky.
8. In spite of having collected the lives of many humans, whose life does Death claim to not have in his collection?

Answer: Elvis

I cheated with this, but I just couldn't resist. This bit of trivia is from "Good Omens", a collaboration between Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. In this scene, Death is playing a game of trivia with the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the original Hell's Angels.
9. When Death is forced into retirement, he becomes a harvester and takes a room in Miss Flitworth's barn. What is Miss Flitworth's first name?

Answer: Renata

Death has quite an interesting, if a bit morose, time working in the fields, cutting blades of wheat one at a time.
10. While attempting to train an apprentice, Death found some extra time on his hands to pursue some other activities, like fishing, partying, gambling, and visiting the Ankh-Morpork job broker, which offered him a new job. Where was this new job located?

Answer: Harga's House of Ribs

Were the wizards of Unseen University, especially Albert, surprised to see Death in an apron with a cat in his arms after casting the Rite of AshkEnte! Incidentally, he gave his fishing fly a name: Death's Glory.

I know I haven't included a lot of other interesting facts about Death, but perhaps a second quiz in future...
