Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Social life was very important for Mrs. Bennet. Thus, they had close neighbours who often visited them. What was their name?

Answer: Lucas

Sir William and Lady Lucas were their neighbours. They had two elder daughters, Charlotta and Maria, as well as other children who do not play any part in the book.
2. There are five sisters in Bennets family and each one of them has a very distinctive character. Which sister tends to read and study music much more than any other?

Answer: Mary

Mary is one character I wish there was more written about. Although, she is quite conceited and tries to attract lots of attention to herself by playing instruments at party and making philosophical comments.
3. It was rumored that Mr. Bingley will bring a large party for the first ball; however he arrived only with his two sisters and two other gentlemen. Who were the gentlemen?

Answer: Mr. Darcy and Mr. Hurst

Mr. Darcy, who at first was preyed upon because of his fortune, was eventually found very uncommunicative and 'disagreeable' since he refused to talk or dance with anyone other than Mr. Bingley's sisters.
4. At the ball, one of the gentlemen says: 'She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me'. Who is the gentleman and who is the lady that is referred to?

Answer: Mr. Darcy; Elizabeth Bennet

Mr. Darcy says that when Mr. Bingley attempts to make his friend dance with someone and suggests Elizabeth as the great candidate. Unfortunately, not only Mr. Darcy refuses the suggestion, but Elizabeth overhears his words and that makes up the bad opinion of him for many others along with other examples of his negative behaviour.
5. In the family circle, some of the Bennets sisters are often called by nicknames. What is Catherine's nickname?

Answer: Kitty

Elizabeth is usually called Lizzy or sometimes Eliza.
6. Jane became sick while she was visiting Netherfield and Elizabeth took up looking after her. However, when Jane got better Mrs. Bennet made a scheme that would let Jane stay at Netherfields longer. What did she do?

Answer: She said that the carriage could not come for Jane for several more days

The scheme did not work out mainly because Elizabeth was fed up with Mr. Bingley's sisters' behaviour and was very eager to leave Netherfield. They simply borrowed Mr. Bingley's carriage and to her mother's disappointment returned home.
7. Bennet's family lived in Longbourn that was entailed on Mr. Collins. Who was the only person in the family that could not accept the nature of the entail no matter how many times it was explained?

Answer: Mrs. Bennet

'It [the entail] was a subject on which Mrs. Bennet was beyond the reach of reason, and she continued to rail bitterly against the cruelty of settling an estate away from a family of five daughters, in favour of a man whom nobody cared anything about.'
8. Elizabeth was held in high regard by more than one person. Which of the following has never liked Elizabeth though?

Answer: Miss Bingley

Miss Bingley always thought Elizabth's relations too poor and as well Miss Bingley was overly jealous of all the credit Mr. Darcy gave to Elizabeth. During the whole book Caroline was trying to win Mr. Darcy's love, but in vain.
9. Through the course of the book, there were several women who wanted or were expected to marry Mr. Darcy. Which of those is not one of the women?

Answer: Charlotte Lucas

Charlotte Lucas had nothing to do with Mr. Darcy since she agreed to marrying Mr. Collins quite early in the book. Anne de Bourgh, though not caring much for Mr. Darcy was expected to marry him by his aunt's designs. Miss Bingley was trying to get his attention to herself throughout the book and Elizabeth wanted to marry Mr. Darcy as well once she recognized his worth.
10. Elizabeth, Mr. Gardiner, and Mrs. Gardiner were to go to vacation on The Lakes, but had to change their plans and go no further than Derbyshire. What person, that Elizabeth has heard much about, but has never met before, did she make an acquaintance with on the trip?

Answer: Miss Darcy

Elizabeth met Miss and Mrs. de Bourgh before during her visit to Charlotte in Kent and she has never heard of Mrs. Reynold, Mr. Darcy's housekeeper, before. The person who she found interesting to meet was Georgiana Darcy, Mr. Darcy's younger sister. Mr. Wickham described her to Elizabeth as overly proud; however, she found it untrue and made a good friend to Georgiana after marrying Mr. Darcy.
