Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is my father?

Answer: Finarfin

I am the eldest of Finarfin's children. Finwe is my grandfather, Fingolfin is my uncle, and Fingon is my cousin.
2. According to "The Silmarillion", why did I choose to go to Middle-earth?

Answer: I did not want to be parted from my friend Turgon.

Turgon and I were like brothers. Even so, my father and I walked at the rear of our host, looking back at Tirion, the city we loved. Yet even when my father turned back, I remained loyal to my friend.
3. What is the name of the elf with whom I am in love?

Answer: Amarie

Amarie is one of the Vanyar elves. She did not go with me into exile in Middle-earth.
4. What was the name of the kingdom which I founded?

Answer: Nargothrond

The vala Ulmo came to me in a dream and counseled me to build this fortified kingdom. The dwarves were a great help to me in this labor, though I did much of the stone carving myself.
5. What did I do when I first saw Men?

Answer: I went to them, sang to them, and befriended them.

I stayed with this group of Men for a year. When I left, Beor, their chief, asked to take service with me.
6. In what place did Barahir save my life?

Answer: It was in the Fen of Serech.

For this brave deed, I gave an oath of friendship and service to him and his house. I later kept this oath when I helped his son Beren fulfill his quest for the silmaril..
7. With whom did I discuss the fates of men and elves, the nature of hope, and my brother?

Answer: Andreth

Andreth was a descendant of Beor, a learned woman among her people. To her I spoke these words: "He (Eru) will not suffer himself to be deprived of his own, not by any enemy, not even by ourselves." (See Athrabeth Finrod Ah Andreth, "The History of Middle-earth, Vol. X.", by J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Christopher Tolkien.)
8. Which one of my siblings helped Frodo in his quest to destroy the ring?

Answer: Galadriel

Galadriel is the youngest of my parents' children. She and I are the closest in temperament.
9. What was the name of the tower which I built and in which I died?

Answer: Minas Tirith

This tower was built on an island which was later captured by the enemy. Its name was changed to Tol-in-Gaurhoth, the Aisle of the Werewolves. I died while helping my friend, Beren, thus fulfilling my oath to Barahir, his father.
10. What am I doing now?

Answer: I walk with my father in Eldamar.

After spending a time of rest and healing in Mandos, I was given a new body and returned to my home in Eldamar. To learn more about how I received this body, please see Laws and Customs Among the Eldar in "The History of Middle-earth, Vol. X".
