First King of Shannara Trivia Quiz

This is the prelude to 'The Sword of Shannara' and describes the forging of the sword and the First War of the Races. This was written after the original trilogy and it contained a lot of useful information. Again, another member of the Brook's series.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What city is the Sword of Shannara forged in?

Answer: Dechtera

A bit of an easy question to start off with. This city is deep in the Southland along with Wayford. Norbane is a Troll city and Culhaven is the Dwarven capital.
2. What are the names of the four Druids who survived Paranor's fall?

Answer: Mareth, Bremen, Tay, and Risca

This one is also pretty easy. They are all main characters in the book and you get to know them well.
3. What was guarding the Black Elfstone in the Chew Magna?

Answer: A garden

The garden was pretty creepy and I thought it was more creative than using the usual big, scary monster.
4. What was the name of Jerle Shannara's warhorse?

Answer: Risk

This is mentioned a few times in the book. Since I particularly like horses I make sure to include something about them if I can.
5. How many children did Jerle and Preia have (this does not include the ones they adopt)?

Answer: 3

In the very ending (sort of the epilogue), it says that they have three daughters and his oldest adopted son succeeds him.
6. Where was the Sword of Shannara placed after Jerle Shannara's death?

Answer: Paranor

Another easy one! There really is only one place the Sword could be put that would be fitting for its majesty. (Whoa, getting a little corny there. I'll do my best to head it off).
7. What city do Mareth and Kinson eventually found?

Answer: Kern

They start a trading post there after they get married and it thrives and becomes the island city of Kern. You may remember Shirl Ravenlock from 'The Sword of Shannara'. She was evidently one of their descendants.
8. What does Urprox Screl change his name to in the end?

Answer: Creel

I thought that this was a nice little setup for the Creels, who play major roles in most of his other books. It's nice to know that the family which forged the Sword is still around.
9. What was the name of the Medallion melted onto the hilt of the Sword?

Answer: Eilt Druin

It's the symbol of office of the High Druid and is has a bit of magic itself. Bremen was told to retreive it and forge it into the hilt. That's where the whole symbol of the hand holding forth the burning torch comes from.
10. Where is the Sword given its magic power?

Answer: The Hadeshorn, when all the Druid shades touch it

This is a rather interesting scene where all the Druids come and touch it and pass on their truth into it. A peculiar ceremony for a peculiar power.
