Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Elizabeth's last name?

Answer: Lavenza

The Frankenstein family brought Elizabeth into their household when Victor was younger, and he felt it was his obligation to look after his new adopted sister. Although they are technically brother and adopted sister, the two refer to themselves as cousins, and Elizabeth refers to Caroline and Alphonse as her aunt and uncle.

The two are a classic pair, and their parents hope that one day in the future, they will marry.
2. In which town did Victor create the creature?

Answer: Ingolstadt

When Victor is seventeen, he travels to Ingolstadt to further his education, and after meeting his teachers and using his past experiences, he creates his experiment. By using recycled human body parts and electricity, Frankenstein makes a creature with lustrous black hair, pearly white teeth, and yellow skin.

The creature towers over other humans, and at eight feet tall, he's difficult not to be frightened of.
3. Who does Victor find at an inn after he creates the monster?

Answer: Henry

After feeling disgusted with his creation, Victor takes a nap and dreams about Elizabeth coming to Ingolstadt, but when he embraces her, she turns into his dead mother. When he awakens, he finds the creature standing next to his bed and he flees his home. The next day, Victor finds Henry at the inn, and when they return to Victor's abode, the creature is gone.
Henry Clerval was Victor's best friend in Geneva, and after Victor becomes ill after creating the monster, he nurses him back to health. Although Victor is pessimistic, Henry is the exact opposite.
4. What disease killed Victor's mother?

Answer: Scarlet fever

Victor's mother, Caroline, had always taken pride in her adopted daughter. Before Victor departed for Ingolstadt, Elizabeth contracted scarlet fever, and Caroline tried to help Elizabeth in any way that should. Elizabeth ended up getting rid of the disease, but Caroline received it shortly after and passed away.
5. What is the name of Robert Walton's sister?

Answer: Margaret

Although we never hear from Margaret Saville, Robert Walton writes all of his letters to her, and he copies down Frankenstein's story. In the beginning of the novel, Robert is on a sledge in the Arctic, and Victor is brought aboard. After recovering for a certain time, Victor told his story to Robert.

Although Robert frequently writes to his sister, Margaret Saville, he is impatient but intelligent. Since Robert's sledge is trapped in the ice, he fears mutiny.
6. Who is executed for committing murder?

Answer: Justine

While recovering from his fever, Victor receives a letter from his father, Alphonse, which tells him that one of his brothers, William, has been murdered. When Victor and Henry return to Geneva, Victor spots the creature standing in the forest and immediately suspects that he committed the murder.

After hearing that a suspect has been found, he realizes that it's another adopted family member, Justine Moritz. Justine had gotten lost during the night of the murder and had fallen asleep in a barn, and when the creature strangled William, he took a picture that William carried and placed it in Justine's pocket. Since she had no alibi, Justine was declared guilty, and was executed.
7. What is the name of the family that the creature observes?

Answer: De Lacey

After leaving Ingolstadt, the creature heads into the wilderness and learns on his own. The monster learns about fire and food, and while sheltering near the De Lacey cottage, he learns to talk and read. After watching the family over a few seasons, the creature decides to try and join their family, but they are frightened by him and the eldest sibling, Felix, fights him off.

The family decides to leave the cottage, and the monster is deeply hurt. The monster tells this story to Victor and requests that Victor make him a new creature so that he may have a companion.
8. Where is Henry Clerval murdered?

Answer: Ireland

Henry and Victor decide to head to England and Victor begins to plan his second experiment. While Victor tries creating his experiment on a remote island, the monster finds him and checks on his progress. Victor then destroys the second creation and the creature vows to be around during Victor's wedding day.

When Victor returns to England, he is suspected of murdering Henry although the monster really did it. After being freed, Victor returns to Geneva.
9. Do Elizabeth and Victor get married?

Answer: Yes

After getting married, Victor and Elizabeth take a boat ride to a cabin, and while Victor is investigating the area in case the monster arrives, the monster breaks into their bedroom and murders Elizabeth. After this, Alphonse dies of grief, and Victor vows to get revenge on his creation.
10. Where does the novel end?

Answer: The Arctic

After chasing the monster all over Europe, Victor heads to the arctic and gets picked up by Robert Walton's ship. After telling the story, and reading Robert's notes on it, he passes away. When Robert goes into Victor's room, he finds the monster who plans to head to the North Pole to burn himself to ashes and rid the world of his terror.
