Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A frying pan and a feegle army - nor hiver, witchfinder nor fairy queen can stop me.

Answer: Tiffany Aching

Tiffany Aching is a young, but very powerful, witch whose steading is The Chalk. She notably faced the Queen of the Fairies with only a frying pan. She is aided by the Nac Mac Feegle, a race of six inch tall Pictsies who are consummate fighters, drinkers and thieves and can often do all three at the same time.

She has defeated a Hiver, The Cunning Man (evil essence of a witch-hunter), the Wintersmith and the Queen of the Fairies. Granny Weatherwax gave Tiffany her hat, metaphorically speaking. Tiffany can even see it if she squints.
2. I have enormous hair and prefer not to fly, I'm in two minds about everything and Perdita knows why.

Answer: Agnes Nitt

Agnes Nitt is the reluctant new "maiden" in the Lancre coven of witches which includes Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax. Agnes replaced Magrat Garlick after she married King Verence and became the new queen. Agnes has self induced multiple personality disorder, and her alter ego is named Perdita; as a result, Agnes is literally in two minds about everything. Perdita is mean and spiteful, the complete opposite of Agnes. Having Perdita in her mind, allows her to be less inclined to be mentally manipulated by vampires and such like. Agnes has enormous hair which swallows combs and has an amazing voice, even able to sing in harmony with herself (Perdita again).
3. I'm blind and deaf, I use Boffo to great effect, my "mechanical" heart has the villagers give me respect.

Answer: Miss Treason

Miss Eumenides Treason is an old witch with whom Tiffany Aching apprenticed in the book "Wintersmith". She is 111 years old, but lies about her age and claims to be 113. She is both deaf and blind, and borrows the senses of sight and hearing from animals and even her apprentices.

She realised that the villagers would not love her, so she taught them to fear her by starting rumours, for instance, that the iron clock around her waist replaced her heart when it stopped years ago. She also uses the Boffo (Ankh Morpork joke shop) merchandise to great effect to look like the traditional picture of a witch, warts and all.

She walks with two sticks and specialises in justice.
4. I use "MagiK" not magic and the Witch Trials I chair. With the True Craft I work, Weatherwax magic does not compare.

Answer: Letice Earwig

Mrs Letice Earwig (she pronounces it "Ah-wij") is a self absorbed and snobbish witch who married a retired wizard. She is the self proclaimed chairwoman of the Witch Trials and has written numerous books about "MagiK" which is referred to by her as the "True Craft".

This is different, according to her, from the general folkish witchcraft that all other witches do, as she uses crystals, chanting and plenty of occult jewellery. She and Granny Weatherwax are polite to each other, but neither approves of the other. Mrs Earwig Has reduced witchcraft to "shoppin'" according to Granny.
5. "Witch-hunting for Dumb People" I wrote that. I am a witch finder and have a spring-operated hat.

Answer: Miss Tick

Miss Perspicacia Tick is referred to as a witch finder. She finds young girls who have witch potential. She is a very intelligent witch and plies a trade as a travelling teacher, because many people are suspicious of witches. This led her to write the "Magavenatio Obtusis" (Witch-hunting for Dumb People) which she secretly distributes in libraries across the land.

This leads people to rather drown than burn witches, place coins in their shoes and give them a hot meal before they do. Her hat is spring-operated to hide the tip and allow her to move in disguise amongst witch-hating people.
6. I fell in love with a Fool and married a King. A great hair day is all I've been wishing.

Answer: Magrat Garlick

Granny Weatherwax has often referred to Magrat Garlick as a "wet hen". She was the "maiden" in the Lancre coven prior to marrying King Verence and becoming queen. King Verence himself used to be the Fool in the court of the previous king, and this was when he met and fell in love with Magrat. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg helped things along and set Verence on the throne, even going as far as to "facilitate" Magrat marrying the king. Magrat believes in crystals, cycles of nature and such like, but was able to embody the spirit of an apparent former warrior queen in order to physically assault the Queen of the Elves (Elves are not cute and nice and she definitely deserved it). Magrat is also renowned for not ever being able to have a good hair day, despite her best efforts.
7. Just one tooth and a face like a friendly raisin. My family is enormous and my capacity for food is amazing.

Answer: Nanny Ogg

Gytha "Nanny" Ogg is described as having a face like a friendly raisin, and has an enormous appetite for fun, food, drink and (apparently) husbands. Her family is extremely large, the most notable of them being her son Shawn, who is the standing army of Lancre (sometimes he sits) and the general doer of everything required by the King.

Her son Jason is a blacksmith, who even shod an ant on a dare, as well as a unicorn brought to him by Granny Weatherwax. Nanny is the owner of the cat Greebo, a most vicious feline who will either try and fight or mate with anything that crosses his path. Nanny, however, thinks he is a real softy and still thinks of him as the cute kitten he once was.

She is the "mother" in the Lancre coven and the perfect foil to Granny Weatherwax's iron will.
8. I'm the Hag o' hags and use -ology of the Head. I once "borrowed" a hive and 'I aten't dead'.

Answer: Granny Weatherwax

Esmerelda "Granny" Weatherwax is the greatest witch on Discworld. She is referred to as the "Hag o' hags" by the Nac Mac Feegle and the first among equals amongst all witches. Her speciality is "headology" which can be loosely described as getting people to do for themselves what should be done, or Jedi mind power, depending on your point of view.

She is the "crone" of the Lancre coven. One of Granny's other special skills is "borrowing", which entails her being able to put her consciousness in the minds of other beings and borrow their bodies.

She has borrowed the mind of a building (Unseen University) and was able to borrow the minds of an entire beehive, a first for witches. While she is Borrowing, she wears a card around her neck with the words "I Aten't Dead".

This is just to prevent the idea that she may be dead, so that people do not try and bury her.
9. I am a talented pig-witch and often say "Um". I was trained by "Old Mother" Blackcap and pins make me run.

Answer: Petulia Gristle

Petulia Gristle is a very talented pig-witch. That is to say, she works with pigs, of which almost every family in the Ramtops more than likely has one. She aids Tiffany Aching in the book "A Hat Full of Sky" and is picked on by Mrs Letice Earwig's student Annagramma Hawkins due to saying "um" very frequently.

She is an expert pig borer, which means that she can literally talk a pig to death, which is a better alternative to conventional slaughter. She also suffers from a pin phobia.
10. I have a ghost called Oswald and I worked in a circus, I lost one body, but that didn't hurt us.

Answer: Miss Level

Miss Level is a very interesting witch, in that she has one mind and two bodies. She used this to great effect while in the circus, as her act was to read her own mind. She was Tiffany Aching's teacher in "A Hat Full of Sky" wherein Tiffany defeated a Hiver, but only after it killed one of Miss Level's two bodies. Miss Level has an obsessively neat house ghost named Oswald who insists on cleaning everything including the dishes you are currently using to hold your food.

Despite losing a body, Miss Level is able to still use her ghost body like a phantom limb.
