Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the bus driver in the novel?

Answer: Saint Gut-Free

The cheese puff munching saint of, well, "shaking hands with the president", so to say, was the one driving the bus for all the participants of the Writer's Retreat.
2. How many people (not counting the narrator) in all went to the Writer's Retreat?

Answer: 19

They are (in no particular order): Mr. Whittier, Mrs. Clark, Saint Gut-Free, Mother Nature, Lady Baglady, Miss America, Duke of Vandals, Agent Tattletale, Earl of Slander, Comrade Snarky, Miss Sneezy, Chef Assassin, Sister Vigilante, Reverend Godless, Director Denial, Baroness Frostbite, the Countess Foresight, the Matchmaker and the Missing Link.

Although Mr. Whittier was the founder of the retreat, he was still involved with the storytelling amongst the group.
3. Mrs. Clark had a daughter who joined the same retreat before Mrs. Clark herself; what was her name?

Answer: Cassandra

Cassandra Clark, the daughter of Tess Clark that looked inside "The Nightmare Box", turned bonkers and joined the Writer's Retreat of Whittier. She was found dead in the woods after escaping from her mother for the last time.
4. Each person had to tell a story, but some told more than just one. How many stories did Mrs. Clark tell?

Answer: four

She told four stories in between other people's stories. The first being her sex tape with her husband, then the three succeeding stories were primarily about her daughter Cassandra.
5. Of course, the names of the characters were not their real names, but just nicknames for their characteristics and experiences based on the stories they told. What was Mr. Whittier's real name?

Answer: Brandon Whittier

Brandon Whitter was his complete name, although on "The Nightmare Box", it was safe to assume that he also went by the name Rand.
6. Mr. Whittier was the proprietor of the Writer's Retreat, but did he tell stories of his own and if so, how many of them?

Answer: two

He actually told two stories. The first was about his illness - his body ages faster than his actual age, and the second was about the emmigration of humans to the planet Venus (one of the best stories in the novel).
7. A cat named Cora Reynolds was also involved in the story, who was her master?

Answer: Director Denial

Director Denial's real name is Cora Reynolds, but she named her cat that as well. Director Denial worked at a precinct where she became too attached to the life-like dummies they used to extract elaborate details from their molested victims. She was also fond of stuffed toys. She was a very lonely woman, and a nutjob too.
8. After much debate, who ended up being Saint Gut-Free's love interest?

Answer: Mother Nature

The group thought that they should have a love team that would spice up the stories they would tell to the media after they get out of the abandoned theatre.
9. When the narrator writes a poem prior to the short story that comes from one of the members of the retreat; he always states that instead of a spotlight on them focused on stage, what is used instead?

Answer: a movie fragment

This is consistent on the second or third verse of each poem found when a member was about to tell a story, except for a slight alteration on the last story provided by Mr. Whittier.
10. By the end of the novel, how many participants are dead?

Answer: six

Although Mr. Whittier died early on in the novel, he totally staged it with the help of Mrs. Clark. He appeared once again in the end to explain the purpose of them being where they are. Miss Sneezy was the one who wanted to leave with Whittier, to be saved.

She was the last person to be killed when one of Chef Assassin's knives was thrown and they dragged her back in the abandoned theatre to die.
