When she was only 13, she walked into a funeral pyre and not only survived (without a burn), but three newly hatched dragons were at her side. It was rumored that in her veins flowed the blood of dragons.

Answer: Daenerys Stormborn

Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen was the last living descendant of the late king Aerys II in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R. R. Martin. She was one of the most powerful and influential female characters of any book series. She ruled over many people in her own right (without a king or consort) in a fantasy world where women had little or no value. All her subjects joined her because she won them over with her strength and her kindness.

Rhaella Targaryen was Dany's ancestor. Murri Maz Duur was the witch who Daenerys had burned alive. Missandei was a slave girl she saved in the third book. Westeros was the name of the country Daenerys wanted to return to.
4. Who was this? This poor girl, after being ridiculed and tortured by her classmates, got her revenge by killing them. Using her supernatural powers, she locked them in the school gym, started a huge fire, and let them all burn.

Answer: Carrietta White

Carrietta White, more commonly known as Carrie, was the main character from Steven King's famous horror novel "Carrie". In the book, the fire began because of the electrical wires Carrie knocked down. Noticing this, she kept them locked in the gym to die.

Thanks to Hollywood, her image will always be a girl in a dress, covered in pig's blood, surrounded by massive flames.

Carrie Stevens was a model. Carrie Fisher was the actress who played Princess Leia in "Star Wars". I made Carrietta Cook up.
5. Who was this? In "The Inheritance Cycle" by Christopher Paolini, there are many people who could use fire magic. In fact, the title of the third book literally meant fire! However, this character was the first person in the series to use magic and create fire.

Answer: Durza

Brom was the first character to use "brisingr" (fire), however, Durza used "istrali boetk" to create a quarter mile of ferocious flames in order to capture the elf girl, Arya. This occurred in the prologue chapter in "Eragon" when the good guys and the bad guys were fighting over the dragon egg. Eragon, the main character, showed up in the next chapter.

Arya was the elf girl captured in the first chapter. Murtagh was a human who didn't make his appearance until halfway through the book.
6. Who was this? Dante Valentine, the main character from a series with the same name, made a deal with one of the most infamous beings associated with fire. She had to go see him in person in his own home, which wasn't an easy journey. This summons led to the rest of the events that occurred in this five book series.

Answer: Lucifer

The first book in the "Dante Valentine" series written by Lilith Saintcrow was called "Working for the Devil". Dante was forced to go to hell by a powerful demon named Japhrimel because the Devil wanted to hire her to kill a demon living on earth. Hell was so hot and the air so poisonous that it was difficult for Dante to breathe.

Vulcan was the Roman god of the forge. Hephaestus was the Greek god of the forge. Ra was the Egyptian deity of the sun. All were associated with fire, but not the character Dante met with.
7. What series was this? Morgan Rowlands found out that she was born from a long line of witches. After she learned about magik and her mysterious past, Morgan came to realize that she had an affinity for fire. This led to much use of fire in the series. What was the name of this series written by Cate Tiernan?

Answer: Sweep

A large series with 15 books! However, each book was pretty short and easy to read. After realizing her passion for fire, Tiernan used this element over all others. Morgan's family died in a fire, she was almost killed by fire herself, and Morgan preferred to scrye using fire.

Magik was how they spell 'magic' in the series. Morgan was a bloodwitch and that was the name of the third book, but not the series. There wasn't any mention of Fireborn at all.
8. What book was this? In this book by Ray Bradbury, firemen didn't put out fires, they started them. Books had been outlawed, so the government ordered all books to be burned, as well as all possessions of those who read/kept them. Montag was one of these firemen who took books from his "jobs" and decided to read them.

Answer: Fahrenheit 451

Ray Bradbury wrote this novel in the 1950s when censorship and the threat of book burning was brought about by the McCarthy era. He named the book "Fahrenheit 451" because that was "the temperature at which paper burns". Scientists speculate if this is true (many don't believe so).
9. What was his fiery nickname? In the novel "Black City" written by Elizabeth Richards, there were many fire references throughout the book. The main character himself was named Ash. Ash rightfully earned himself this title and it was what the nation came to known him by as he led a rebellion against the evil dictator.

Answer: Phoenix

A hero who rose from the ashes of Black City and began a war against Purian Rose. His full title was the Black Phoenix, but they called him Phoenix for short. "Phoenix" was also the title of the second book in the series.

The others were never mentioned, but Purian Rose and his devoted followers might have considered Ash a devil.
10. Who was this? He was a pyrokinetic vampire from the novel "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter- Burnt Offerings". Anita, from the beginning of this book, was warned about a pyrokinetic (one who could make people (including themselves) burst into flames at will) in the area by a firefighter. This pyrokinetic, who also happened to be a vampire, was also able to walk in direct sunlight- a gift unheard of in the vampire world of Anita Blake. He ended the book by burning an evil vampire called Yvette and saving the day.

Answer: Warrick

This book was his first and only appearance. He was turned during the crusades by Yvette. Warrick believed his gift of fire was a gift from God, which he used to destroy the evil vampiress who tortured him for centuries.

All the other characters were vampires from Anita Blake series. However, Alejandro was an Aztec vampire from "Circus of the Damned", Padma was the Beastmaster from "Burnt Offerings", and Asher was an old friend of Jean Claude (Anita's vampire boyfriend).
