There were two reasons Ippo was downed five times in the fight. One was that Ippo just recently started boxing; another is that Miyata has been trained since he was little.

They are both downed three times in this spar. Miyata downs Ippo twice using the counter and then the last time using a hit and run style. Ippo downs Miyata twice using combinations then once using the smash.

Miyata lost much of his stamina in the first round so he gained his stamina back by clinching Ippo. A clinch is when a boxer grabs another and holds his body and arms so that he can't punch him. This is often used as a stalling tactic so a boxer can recover.

Answer: Ippo by KO

Ippo wins by KO by using a smash. It hits a pinpoint spot on Miyata's chin which causes him to not be able to stand.
