Answer: Mississippi

Grisham is known for setting his novels in the south so it is natural he would set his short stories down in the south. While a fictional county, this is not the first time Grisham has writen about Ford County. His first novel, "A Time to Kill", was also set in Ford County.
2. In the first short story, "Blood Drive," three young men travel to Tennessee to donate blood for a local resident who had an accident. Which town did the three men drive to?

Answer: Memphis

The three men, Aggie, Calvin and Roger set out to be heroes and donate blood for Bailey, who is believed to be seriously hurt. Bailey actually only has minor injuries which do not require a blood transfusion. Meanwhile, Aggie, Calvin and Roger have some beers on the road and get into all sorts of trouble with the police after things get out of control.
3. In "Fetching Raymond," Leon, Butch, and Inez drive to prison to visit with Raymond. Why are they visiting Raymond?

Answer: Raymond is about to be executed

Raymond is about to be executed for murder and his mother Inez comes with his two brothers Leon and Butch to have one final visit with him. Raymond illogically clings to hope that he will be able to prove his innocence. When the moment of his execution is upon him, Raymond apologizes to the family of the man he killed.

Inez, Leon, and Butch then take his body away and have a burial service.
4. Which character in "Fish Files" has appeared in other works by John Grisham?

Answer: Harry Rex Vonner

Harry Rex Vonner is Mack Stafford's friend and divorce attorney. Like the fictional Ford County, he first appeared in the novel "A Time to Kill" and was portrayed by Oliver Platt in the movie adaptation of the novel. He has also had smaller roles in several other Grisham novels.
5. How much money does Mack Stafford tell his clients they will be receiving in the settlement case in "Fish Files?"

Answer: 25,000 dollars

Stafford originally had four clients on the case, but when he gets the settlement offer he can only find two of them. He settles each case for 100,000 dollars, but he tells his two remaining clients that the settlement was only 25,000 dollars. Due to this deceit, Stafford is able to run away with 350,000 dollars.

Answer: Blackjack

After losing his wife to a casino owner, Sydney learns card counting and playing Blackjack. He is able to win so much money that the casino cannot afford to pay him all his earnings. After his winnings are held up in court, Sydney effectively breaks the casino and wins his wife back.

Stanley's wife is sick and unable to cook dinner that evening. Stanley heads over to the grocery store after work to pick up a pizza for dinner. At the store he is recognized by Jim Cranwell who lost a legal case to Stanley's defense and still harbors a grudge.

Answer: Michael is Jim's son

Michael is Jim's 11-year-old son. Years earlier Stanley had successfully defended a doctor accused of malpractice which resulted in a series of profound medical conditions for Michael. By losing the lawsuit the family is forced to pay the medical expenses. Jim kidnaps Stanley and puts him on trial for his role in the lawsuit.
9. Which nursing home resident does Gilbert get to sign away his/her estate to Gilbert in "Quiet Haven?"

Answer: Lyle Spurlock

Gilbert is able to swindle Lyle out of his estate by using his position as a nursing home attendant to befriend Lyle. Once he gains Lyle's trust, he gets him to sign some forms which name Gilbert as the beneficiary of Lyle's will. Gilbert has worked in at least 15 other nursing homes where he played similar tricks on unsuspecting residents.
10. How does Adrian Keane ultimately die in "Funny Boy?"

Answer: He commits suicide by swallowing an unidentified pill

While Adrian does come home to Clanton as he is dying from AIDS, the disease is not his ultimate killer. As Adrian is close to death, he takes an unidentified black pill which puts him out of his misery. His suicide note to Emporia verifies that he ended his life before his disease did.
