Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When his fellow airline passengers are suddenly taken up in the rapture, reporter Buck Williams finds that the phones lines on his flight to Chicago are all busy. To get around this problem, what does he do?

Answer: Takes the phone apart and hooks the lines to the modem in his computer

Luckily for Buck, the "four wires from both the computer and the phone looked identical." How this action frees up "the connection to his ramp on the information superhighway" is never made clear.
2. As they approach their destination, pilot Ray Steele notes that the expressways around the airport look just like they they did during the "great Chicago blizzards" only without what?

Answer: The snow

Just imagine what those expressways would have looked like during those "great Chicago blizzards"... only without the snow. Probably the same way they looked during the great Chicago floods, only without the water.
3. Upon landing, Ray Steele berates his co-pilot for catching a ride to the terminal instead of "being the first to volunteer for emergency duty". As Ray walks back to the terminal he passes several "emergency vehicles trying to get to wreckage scenes." How many people does Ray stop to help as he legs it back to the terminal?

Answer: None

Ray goes directly to the terminal, picks up a package that his wife mailed to the airport for him, and heads home. Later we find out that the package from his wife contains two cookies with hearts drawn on them in chocolate. Why she would mail two cookies to his work place when his home is minutes away is unclear.
4. Upon finding that his wife, Irene, has been taken up in the rapture, Ray sees all of the following in or next to their bed EXCEPT for what?

Answer: His favorite negligee

Irene liked sleeping in her favorite flannel nightgown, but only when Ray was out of town. One of the first things Ray does the following morning is hunt down the rest of those cookies Irene made. Hey, a man's gotta eat.
5. Ray's son is also taken up in the rapture. When they authors tell us that Ray Jr. was a bit of a "mama's boy" they are careful to point out that he was also what?

Answer: Not effeminate

For some reason the authors wanted to make it clear that being a "mama's boy" who was taken up in the rapture did not entail any effeminate behavior.
6. Meanwhile, reporter Buck Williams is trying to smooth things over with local editor Lucinda Washington, a "fiftyish, black woman" who is upset with him. Why is Lucinda upset with Buck?

Answer: He scooped her reporters on a story... a SPORTS story!

Yes, it was bad enough that he scooped her reporters on a local story, the fact that it was a sports story made his transgression particularly heinous.
7. During his conversation with Lucinda, Buck casually informs her that the Israelis do what?

Answer: Hate Jesus

Lucinda, an educated woman, seems nonplussed by the news. When Buck points out that God has been good to the Israelites, in spite of this apparent hatred for Jesus, Lucinda can only comment that he works in mysterious ways.
8. Back in the Steele household, Ray comes to the conclusion that he was unworthy of Irene and realizes what?

Answer: That she couldn't in anyway have been as naive or stupid as he had hoped and imagined

It takes a big man to admit that his wife wasn't as stupid as he hoped. Ray goes on to admit that she had to have known that he was vapid, shallow, and cheap. And yet she loved him. What a gal!
9. And speaking of wives: while in England, Buck meets up with Alan Tompkins, his source at Scotland yard. Tompkins, who's one of the good guys in the story, explains that he's still fond of his ex-wife and wouldn't want to see anyone harm her. In spite of this fondness for her he also mentions what?

Answer: That he wouldn't mind "snuffing" her himself

Hey, at least he doesn't want anyone else harming her! Soon after this meeting the bad guys put an end to Alan, so, assuming no one else wants to snuff her, his wife is safe for the time being.
10. In a later volume of the "Left Behind" series, we find out that the man leading the world into moral destruction, Nicholae Carpathia, is what?

Answer: The product of genetic engineering using cells from two gay men

No mention is made of whether or not he was in any way effeminate. Naturally, Carpathia does his dirty work through the United Nations. After all, Israel is a member and, despite the fact that God has been so good to them, they do hate Jesus.
