Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who in this world would go all the way to Cuba to steal 'The Parrot Who Met Papa' from a bar?

Answer: Shelly Capon

What an absurd mess! Papa had sat in this Cuban bar confiding in the parrot, El Cordoba, for years. Now Papa (Hemingway) is dead and tourists flock from all over to hear the parrot spout in Papa's voice! Then the parrot begins prattling off Papa's last, and until then, unknown novel! Capon 'parrotnapped' the bird, and was offering it to the highest bidder!
2. What statement about El Cordoba the parrot is false?

Answer: It spoke fluent French.

It's all true, except the bird couldn't speak French. Ray himself gets into the act and sets out to rescue and return the bird - or does he? This such a funny story!
3. Why does Doug believe that killing Ralph Underhill would be 'The Utterly Perfect Murder'?

Answer: All of these.

Imagine just waking up one morning, and thinking, 'I'll go kill the kid who made me miserable until I was twelve'. That's exactly what Doug decides to do - hop a train, go to Ralph's house, and shoot him dead. He figures who'll ever suspect him? He hasn't even seen Ralph in 36 years! Get rid of Ralph and all those painful memories once and for all!
4. When Doug reaches his old hometown and finally faces Ralph, what does Doug find?

Answer: Small, thin-haired man prematurely aged by illness

Doug found the years had not been kind to Ralph. The boy who had towered over him as a child was a small, thin-haired man prematurely aged by ill-health. What Doug does next is - well, you don't want to know the ending, right? Something interesting, Bradbury's name is Douglas. He uses the name in more than one story in this collection.
5. At the Halloween party in 'October Game', what does Marion's father say he is passing around to the children in the dark?

Answer: A witch's body parts

He wanted revenge on Louise for her supposed coldness. What can he do? Shooting her dead is too quick. She'd enjoy it if he divorced her. There is only one thing in this world that Louise loves - their eight year old daughter, Marion. So to really, really hurt Louise, he comes up with his October game!
6. After the game has gone on for a while, Louise begins screaming a phrase over and over? What is it?

Answer: Don't turn on the lights!

She's afraid to turn on lights because of what she might find. Then, some fool turns on the lights, and...read it yourself...tell me what YOU think! Scary stuff!
7. In 'Have I Got A Chocolate Bar For You' what can Father Malley smell through the screen when the young man comes to confession?

Answer: Chocolate

Father Malley smelled chocolate! The young man is so heavy that he shakes the confessional when he sits! He has come to the priest in a last-ditch effort to break his chocoholic ways.
8. Years later the young man leaves Father Malley a gift blessed by the Pope. What does he give the priest?

Answer: Chocolate bar

He leaves the most appropriate gift ever - a blessed chocolate bar. You're thinking, why did she PUT that in, the title gives away the answers! I wanted you to know that all Bradbury isn't dark - far from it! This is a sweet, and very funny story of an old priest who was sick and tired of hearing the same old petty sins, and a young man who had a very bitter - sweet problem.
9. It is 'Long After Midnight' when the police and ambulance arrive at the cliff overlooking the sea. What do they find down at the palisades?

Answer: A girl's body hanging by the neck

It is the body of a young girl, weighing about 90 pounds, and dressed up as if she'd been going to a party. The police had received an anonymous call around midnight saying a girl had hung herself.
10. The young policeman named Latting finds something very strange about the body. What is it?

Answer: The girl was actually a male.

Latting said the girl could have died for love. She loved a boy who did not love her. Maybe she was pregnant. Then he realizes this is not a female. Yet the question is stil there: was this death for love? A possiblity comes to me, but yours may be different! I hope I have shown you a few of the many sides of Bradbury, from the downright absurd, to the horrifying.

He never disappoints his fans. Happy reading!
