5. Maria's foster mother had a total of how many children, including her two foster children?

Answer: six

After Maria's father was left with heartbreak after his first wife's death, he left Karl with the same foster mother that Maria was left with. Keeping a diary was Maria's least favorite thing that her father had her do. Maria found her everyday life completely uninteresting. Maria was older when it came upon her that her father had maybe left things for her after he died and she started to wonder what had happened to things like his collection of hundreds of books and the birds he had had.

When she thought of these things, she thought about the diaries and had figured that her father must have kept a few of his own.
