Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A female with a shaved head that's tattooed with green vines: who did that describe?

Answer: Cressida

Cressida was the director of the TV crew assigned to film the promos featuring the Mockingjay. Her assistant Messalla was a thin man who wore a lot of earrings. They were introduced in chapter seven. Tigris appeared toward the end of the book, and she looked like a cat.
2. Commander Paylor was the leader of the rebels in which district?

Answer: 8

When Katniss met her, Paylor was overseeing patients wounded in what was most likely a Capitol bombing. She wore a bandage around her throat that was in need of changing, and Katniss thought she looked young for a commander. Paylor was in her early thirties, but had an "authoritative tone" to her voice. It was a good thing too, as she was destined to be President of Panem.
3. How many years had it been since Katniss had sung "The Hanging Tree" aloud, when she sang it again for Pollux?

Answer: 10

This may have been challenging, but I wanted to ask a more unique question about the part of the book where Katniss sang the song. Katniss was reluctant to sing at all, but felt she couldn't refuse Pollux since he was an Avox. The song had been taught to her by her father, but banned from their family ten years earlier by her mother.

She started off with just Rue's four note melody before she sang "The Hanging Tree".
4. What did Gale propose to use, and have successfully implemented, against the mountain stronghold in District 2 called the Nut?

Answer: An avalanche

Commander Lyme, of District 2, showed the rebels of 13 a detailed virtual demonstration of the Nut. Lyme was another champion of the Games, which Katniss had seen when she watched tapes sent to her by Effie in "Catching Fire". After much talk and frustration over a realistic strategy, Gale finally suggested that they simply disable the place instead of trying to overtake it.

A rock avalanche was created, and it sealed off all the exits, except the one that led to the train back to town. Gale wanted to close off all exits, but the final decision was to leave it open and conquer it instead.
5. After Katniss was shot on TV, in District 2, who was the first person she awoke to back in District 13?

Answer: Johanna Mason

Katniss was shot while talking down a man holding her at gunpoint. He'd been badly burned during their raid in District 2, and she was trying to inspire him to spare her. She was trying to inspire the whole crowd, but someone shot her anyway. It was not the man directly holding her at gunpoint. She awoke back in 13, feeling pain in her left ribcage, when Johanna jerked back her white curtain divider.

Katniss: "I'm alive."
Johanna: "No kidding, brainless."
6. In Chapter 24, Gale and Katniss made their way into the Capitol to kill Snow. Which choice does NOT describe one of the pods they witnessed killing people?

Answer: A swarm of Jabberjays that pecked children to death

The crack that opened up an entire block almost took Gale and Katniss. And though they narrowly escaped, Gale was soon after captured by Peacekeepers. The pair had agreed they'd never let each other be taken alive, but Katniss could not make herself kill Gale as he was dragged away. He made it out alive, she found out later, despite being shot twice trying to escape.
7. "Don't worry, I've saved him for you." Who said this to Katniss near the end of the book?

Answer: President Coin

After Katniss watched Prim die, and she herself was burned badly in the process, she awoke to these words from Coin. Coin, of course, meant she had saved the execution of Snow for Katniss, just as promised.
8. After the fall of the Capitol, did Peeta vote "yes" to one final Hunger Games?

Answer: No

Coin explained that people were calling for the deaths of all remaining Capitol citizens. She said that she thought a final Hunger Games, in lieu of killing everyone, could satisfy the rebels from all districts. The votes would only come from the six remaining champions. They voted as such: Johanna "yes", Peeta "no", Enobaria "yes", Annie "no", Katniss "yes" and Haymitch "yes".
9. Which is NOT true about the story after Katniss killed President Coin?

Answer: Gale, Annie and Haymitch were executed as conspirators

Coin took over as President of Panem, not just 13, after the Capitol fell. President Snow, while captive, convinced Katniss that Coin was the one who'd sacrificed the children (Prim included) using Gale and Beetee's weapon. Katniss knew it had been their design, and knew Snow was not lying on all levels. So, when time came to execute him, Katniss killed Coin instead. Snow died during the chaos that followed, either by choking on his own laughter, or at the hand of some unseen assailant.

After months locked up all alone, Katniss was freed and sent to live in District 12 with Haymitch.

After a while had passed, Peeta was also sent to be with her.
10. In the "Epilogue", Katniss shared all of these except which one?

Answer: She married Peeta, but always wished he were Gale

Peeta and Katniss' daughter had dark hair and blue eyes. Their son had blonde curls and gray eyes. Katniss had felt terror during her pregnancies, and only holding the babies had help to ease it. It took many years for her to even agree to have the children, but Peeta had wanted them so much that she finally did.

She felt her children danced on a graveyard of their unknowing. But, since they would be taught about the Games in school, she knew she'd one day have to explain her part to them. She did love Peeta, and felt she needed his dandelion and not Gale's fire.

This was explained in the final chapter, though, and not even in the "Epilogue".
