Answer: Stabbed

Samuel Ratchett's name was really Casetti. He engineered the kidnapping of little Daisy Armstrong, which occurred before the story began. He was receiving threatening letters, and asked Poirot to investigate for him. But Poirot refused, saying he did not like Ratchett's face.
2. How long has Pierre Michel, the Wagon-Lit conductor, been employed with the company?

Answer: Over 15 years

Pierre Michel did go into the other coach, to speak to his colleague, just after about 1 am. He remembers Ratchett calling out in French. He saw a lady in the train corridor, wearing a scarlet kimono with dragons. Pierre Michel is revealed to be the father of the nursery maid, who worked at the Armstrong home. Suzanne, his daughter, killed herself, after the police questioned her about the disappearance of Daisy Armstrong.
3. After dinner, the evening before, Hector MacQueen, Ratchett's secretary, talked with someone in his compartment. Who was it?

Answer: Colonel Arbuthnot

MacQueen says that his father was the district attorney who handled the Daisy Armstrong case, MacQueen smokes cigarettes. MacQueen always adored Sonia Armstrong, Daisy's mother.
4. What did Edward Masterman, Ratchett's valet, suffer with?

Answer: Toothache

Edward Masterman says that Ratchett was upset, when he last saw him. He demanded if he had put a letter in his compartment. He had been in Ratchett's employment for about nine months. Masterman used to be Colonel Armstrong's batman in the war, and later he was his valet in America.

The button is from a tunic of a Wagon-Lit attendant. But there are no buttons missing from any of the Wagon-Lit uniforms. Mrs Hubbard could not tell if her compartment door was bolted, when she was in bed, as her sponge bag was on the door handle. She asked the Swedish maid, Greta Ohlson, to check, when she came in for some aspirin; the handkerchief found in Ratchett's compartment is not Mrs Hubbard's. Mrs Hubbard is revealed to be Linda Arden, the famous actress. Linda Arden is a stage name. She was Sonia Armstrong's mother, and Helena Andrenyi is her younger daughter.
6. Where is Greta Ohlson, the Swedish lady, travelling to?

Answer: Lausanne

Greta Ohlson accidentally opened Ratchett's compartment, when she was going to see Mrs Hubbard. He was insulting to her. She is the last person to see Ratchett alive. Ohlson was the nurse in charge of Daisy Armstrong.
7. Where does Princess Dragomiroff live?

Answer: Paris

The Princess says it is Destiny when Poirot introduces himself. She was Sonia Armstrong's godmother. She was a good friend of Linda Arden. Her first name is Natalia.

The Countess takes a sleeping draught, when she travels by train. Her name is apparently Elena Maria, and she is younger than her husband. The grease spot is near the Countess's name. The Countess's name is really Helena, and she is the younger sister of Sonia Armstrong. She was the only person on the train who did not stab Ratchett.
9. Where in America has Count Andrenyi been?

Answer: Washington

The Count is Hungarian. He says that he and his wife heard nothing. He seems unwilling for Poirot, Doctor Constantine and Monsieur Bouc to question his wife. He is married to Sonia Armstrong's younger sister.
10. Where did Colonel Arbuthnot stop off at, for three days, before boarding the Orient Express?

Answer: Baghdad

The Colonel smokes a pipe and knew Colonel Armstrong slightly. A pipe cleaner was found in Ratchett's compartment. He considers Mary Debenham a lady. Colonel Armstrong saved Arbuthnot's life during the war.

Answer: McNeil's

Cyrus Hardman is really from a detective agency, in America. Ratchett asked him to travel with him, and showed him the threatening letters he had received. Hardman was in love with the French nursery maid at the Armstrong house, Pierre Michel's daughter.

Foscarelli is an American subject, and been in America for ten years. He remembers little about the Armstrong case. Foscarelli is revealed to be the Armstrong's chauffeur.

Mary seems startled when Poirot asks if she has a scarlet kimono. She says it is not hers - but she saw someone in a scarlet kimono in the corridor in the early hours of the morning. Mary was a companion governess in the Armstrong household.
14. What did Hildegarde Schmidt, Princess Dragomiroff's maid, go to get for her mistress?

Answer: A rug

Hildegard Schmidt went to see the Princess the night before and gave her a massage; a conductor nearly ran into her. She describes the conductor as a small dark man with a woman's voice. None of the conductors match this description. Schmidt used to be the cook in the Armstrong household.

Answer: Poirot's

Poirot gives the passengers two solutions to the murder of Samuel Ratchett. Monsieur Bouc and Doctor Constantine will pick which solution they prefer.
