1. Our quiz begins with Poirot's first case, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". What was the first name of Emily Inglethorp's second husband?

This was first published in 1920. Arthur Hastings (later to be Captain Hastings) narrates the story and meets with an old friend, Hercule Poirot.
2. In "Murder On the Links", what was Mr Renauld's son called?

Answer: Jack

This was first published in 1923. Poirot and Hastings receive an urgent letter from France to come immediately, but they are too late. Captain Hastings meets his wife in this book.
3. In "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd", what was the name of Roger Ackroyd's niece?

Answer: Flora

This was first published in 1926. It is probably one of the most famous of Poirot's cases, with a surprising ending.
4. In "The Big Four", where did Poirot's twin brother live?

Answer: Belgium

This was first published in 1927. Poirot's brother does not appear in any other book, and it is possible that Poirot invented his twin brother to fool "The Big Four". He says to Hastings, later in the book that"Achille" was really Hercule in disguise. "Brother Achille has gone home again - to the land of myths.

It was I all the time." Poirot and Hastings have to investigate various crimes to do with a group of people who want to take over.
5. In "The Mystery of the Blue Train", what was the name of Ruth Kettering's husband?

Answer: Derek

This was first published in 1928. A woman is murdered on the Blue Train, and Poirot investigates.
6. In "Peril at End House", what was the name of the Australian couple that lived near End House?

Answer: Croft

This was first published in 1932. Poirot and Hastings have come to Torquay for a holiday, and meet a girl who says that her life has been endangered three times as in as many days.
7. In "Lord Edgeware Dies", (also known as "Thirteen at Dinner"), what was the name of the Lord Edgeware's wife, who wants a divorce?

Answer: Jane

This was first published in 1933. Poirot and Hastings investigate the death of Lord Edgeware.
8. In "Black Coffee" (Agatha Christie's first original play), what was the profession of Sir Claud Amory?

Answer: Scientist

The play was written in 1934, but in 1998 Charles Osbourne made the play into a successful book. Poirot and Hastings go to Sir Claud Amory's home when he writes to say that an important formula has been stolen.
9. In "The Murder on the Orient Express" (also known as "Murder in the Calais Coach"), what was the first name of the daughter of Colonel Armstrong?

Answer: Daisy

This was first published in 1934. The book was made into a successful film. Probably another famous Poirot mystery, when he is travelling on the Orient Express.
10. In "Three Act Tragedy" (also known as "Murder in Three Acts), what was the real name of Egg Lytton Gore?

Answer: Hermione
