Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Your first customer has just read a book by Barbara Tuchman and loved it. Where would you take him or her to find the most similiar topic?

Answer: History

Tuchman is a reknowned historian.
2. 'I'd like a copy of 'In Cold Blood'', the next customer says. You send him or her to what section in your store?

Answer: Fiction

To avoid a debate as to whether Capote's book is fact or fiction, I didn't give Non-Fiction as a choice. It really is catalogued as Fiction though it is based on the loose details of fact. (But, as per my recollection, if you ever want it check in both sections!).
3. Here comes another one! 'Stephen Dunn is the best! Where is the section I can find his books?'. You take him or her to which aisle?

Answer: Poetry

Dunn is one of my favorite poets and recently (and FINALLY) an award-winning one at that!
4. Oh, great! Just when you're sitting down for a cup of coffee. A customer jostles your arm (on the second sip) to see other books by a person his friend recommended. You wantonly wipe off the arm and lead him to what section of the store? (The book is that of Bev Doolittle)?

Answer: Art

Bev's work is classic, in my opinion. A truly stunning blend of natural wildlife colors. A painter of great worth!
5. This one might get you as it got me----A very nice woman came in asking for Stephen King's diet book (she knew nothing about King and was only responding to a gift list submitted by her son in college. I got it finally...) Can you?

Answer: Thinner

It was probably the most perplexing and stimulating question during my bookstore career.
6. The District Manager comes in and decides to quiz you (because he's a mean, mean person!). 'What wss the best selling fiction novel of all time, before Harry Potter came along?', he asks. You know it. You tell him what?

Answer: The Valley Of The Dolls

Last list I checked it was second only to the Bible. Yikes. But then along came Harry!
7. On his way out that grouchy old district manager wants a copy of an old book 'When Rabbit Howls'. You dutifully snag him a copy of it from what section? (Pick the most likely of these four!)

Answer: Psychology

It could be Biography but it's about a woman who had multiple personalities so Psychology fits best. During the time of the Shelley Long TV movie I built a small display using stuffed rabbits and the book. I had fun (but that grumpy district manager didn't crack a smile!)
8. (Your coffee's getting cold!) A teenager comes in, with a pack of friends who'd rather be somewhere else) asking for 'The Miracle Worker' for a school reading assignment. You know where it is. You drag them all to what section? (Pick the most likely)

Answer: Drama

Gibson wrote the play. It was never in prose form. Helen was all about Self-Help and Education in later writings but this is only available in the form of drama (or video or repeats) now. Note: If you missed it I won't write you up. Tee Hee!
9. As you return from your restroom break (no interrupting those!) what code does your boss ask you to pay great attention to. It's on the back, inside cover or wherever you can find it. It's essential to checking out properly.

Answer: ISBN

International Standard Book Number! 10 digits next time anyone asks---which is rightly not likely to happen!
10. Last customer on your shift----'Somebody wrote this great book called 'Breathing Lessons'. Point to where I can find it.' You wag your finger to what section?

Answer: Fiction

Should be an easy one! Anne Tyler is one of the best established female fiction writers at work! I can't wait to read her latest! OK. You may go home to wife and kids now. It's been an exceptional work day!
