Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which house is Teppic placed into at the assassins' school?

Answer: Viper House

If you picked Gryffindor or Slytherin, you're doing the wrong quiz. Those are school houses in the Harry Potter books.
2. Who was Teppic's best friend at school?

Answer: Chidder

His father is in commerce. Teppic, being royal, has no grasp of real life. "I've never been to Commerce, but I understand they're very fine people."

He never goes into detail about what kind of commerce, but it has something to do with moving goods around and supplying needs. Exactly what goods and what needs is never explained.
3. Which teacher monitors Teppic's final exam?

Answer: Mericet

All are teachers at the school. Lady T'malia teaches Political Expediency. Nivor teaches Traps and Deadfalls. The Kompt teaches Modern Languages and Music. Mericet teaches Strategy and Poison Therapy.

"They said you had one chance in two unless you drew old Mericet as examiner, in which case you might as well cut your throat right at the start."

Of course, (probably due to narrative causality) Teppic gets Mericet.
4. Who is the Djelibeybian High Priest?

Answer: Dios

It turns out that Dios is seven thousand years old. He uses his pyramid to turn back time in small bits so he never dies.

Koomi is the high priest of Khefin, the Two-Faced God of Gateways. He is expected to succeed Dios as high priest; that is, if Dios ever dies. Ptaclusp is the pyramid builder. (His twin sons are Ptaclusp IIa and Ptaclusp IIb.) Didactylos is an Ephebian philosopher who doesn't even appear in this story. (See 'Small Gods'.)
5. Which of the following is NOT a trait of the Djelybeybian soldiers?

Answer: Fanatical devotion to their god-king

The last thing the priesthood wants are enthusiastic soldiers. This makes it easy for Teppic to slip through the palace unnoticed in his assassin garb.
6. What is the book which captivated Teppic as a youth?

Answer: The Shuttered Palace

"The Shuttered Palace (translated from the Klatchian by A Gentleman, with Hand-Coloured Plates for the Connoisseur in A Stricly Limited Edition)" was confusing, but instructive. Later he finds out that Ptraci's great-great-grandmother posed for most of the pictures. She herself has gotten as far as number 46, Congress of the Five Auspicious Ants.

"The Joye of Snackes" is Nanny Ogg's cookbook which gets published in 'Masquerade' and prompts the trip to Ankh-Morpork.

"De Chelonian Mobile" (The Turtle Moves) is the underground book contradicting Omnian teachings in 'Small Gods'.

"130 Days of Psuedopolis" is similar to "The Shuttered Palace". Ptraci recognizes a picture from it on one of Alfonz's tattoos.
7. How far in "Little Pieces for Tiny Fingers" has Ptraci gotten?

Answer: "The Goblin's Picnic"

It is a dulcimer instruction book. Ptraci has gotten all the way to page five. "Congress of the Fox and Persimmon" is from "The Shuttered Palace", a different kind of instruction book.
8. How many monarchs (including Teppic) have there been in Djelybeybi?

Answer: 1,398

We learn this when Teppic and Dios are talking to Ptaclusp about the construction schedule for the new pyramid.

Dios: "Completion in three months. In time for Inundation."
Ptaclusp: "What?"
Dios: "You are talking to the 1,398th monarch."
Ptaclusp: "I'm sorry. I mean, what?, O great king."
9. What is the name of Ch- (whoops, almost gave away the answer to question 2)? What is the name of the boat in which Teppic and Ptraci leave Ephebe?

Answer: The Unnamed

"A mere five minute's work with an axe would turn this wallowing alcazar into something that could run away from nearly everything else afloat and make the few the could catch up seriously regret it."
10. Which of the following is not known by Dios to be related to the sun?

Answer: The God Io

Io is known to Dios as one of the many "Supreme Gods". The sun is is eaten every night by What, who saves a little bit to grow a new sun for morning. "The Book of Staying In the Pit" says the sun is the Eye of Yay, toiling across the sky in the searching for his toenails. The Secret Rituals of the Smoking Mirror hold that the sun is a round hole in the spinning blue soap bubble of the Goddess Nesh.

Folk myth said the sun was a ball of fire which circled the world everyday, and that the world was carried on the back of an enormous turtle. Dios also know that this was so, but it gave him a bit of trouble.
