All of the above tied the Coloradans to the mine. But the one piece for sure was a faded copy of the Rocky Mountain News which was dated on November 17, 1911. Koplin said that newspaper had page 3 in the upper right corner snipped out for some reason.

Koplin said a body which was neatly preserved had been laid in a bunk and the epitaph on the board had read, "Here lies Jake Hobart. February 10, 1912. A damn good man who froze in a storm." The body had red hair and a red beard.

It was not a dead end for Donner. After being able to retrieve the copy of the newspaper dated November 17, 1911, he found that the section that was cut out reported about a mine disaster. While he was waiting on the receptionist to return from getting the copy, he looked through the business directory for Denver.

He did not find any of the names specifically that Koplin had said, but under the J listings, he had found a Jenson & Thor Ironworks. He decided to take a chance and check it out.

Carl Jenson had looked up the request from Donner as to who had purchased tools for mining from his company back then. To cover up a secret, Donner had called them the "perpetrator". When Jenson looked it up, he found a buyer for "drilling equipment" which was purchased from the U.S. Government.

As Donner was trying to get Young to open up about the Little Angel mine accident, he stated that he was checking validity of a pension fund to the widow. As it turned out, Brewster was not married and Young happened to be Brewster's nephew. Safe to say, Brewster never had a widow.

Young said that the Little Angel, he believed, was a hoax because of several reasons, but one in particular was because it was found that the tools were second rate junk. Young said that his uncle would've never went into that mine with that kind of equipment.

He is not quite sure as to why they did this, but all he knew was that his uncle and the others were sent "to some man-made hell in the Arctic".

This might explain the body that was found in the Betnia Mountain mine.
