1. How tall was the man in stateroom A-33? (epilogue)

Answer: 5'2"

In the epilogue, it does not yet mention the man's name or even what ship he is on. It does, though, mention that the man lying in the stateroom is 5'2" and is a few days shy of his birthday. The epilogue sets up the book for the rest of the adventure.
2. Where did the passenger say he wanted to go, as the ship was going down?

Answer: cargo hold

As the ship is going down, the passenger brandishs a gun and demands the junior officer take him to the cargo hold. The section of the cargo hold that he wanted was Cargo Hold 1; G Deck.
3. What were the passenger's final words as he locked himself into the steel vault?

Answer: Thank God for Southby

The passenger states to the officer that he has killed eight good and true men. He can't live with that. Still seeing the bewilderment in the officer's eyes, the passenger murmurs, "Thank God for Southby" before locking the door of the vault with himself trapped inside. This phrase will come into play later on in the book.
4. Who do Gene Seagram and Mel Donner visit?

Answer: President

As the President is dreaming about what he will do after his term in office is through, Gene Seagram and Mel Donner pay him a visit. They are part of a secret agency called Metasection. They are in charge of coming up with ideal plans for protecting the country.
5. How much longer do Donner and Seagram have to get the Cecilian Project up and running?

Answer: 18 months

The President warns that Donner and Seagram only have 18 months to get the Cecilian Project up and running before the next President takes office. He wants results and he wants them now! Seagram states that they've found a promising area of the north island of Netvia Zemblia as a possibility to find Byzanium. That is the element needed to complete the Cecilian Project.
6. What do the initials NUMA stand for?

Answer: National Underwater and Marine Agency

Seagram is requesting that NUMA be involved, to disguise the expedition as a research project in the Arctic. If caught, they could be held for espionage.
7. How many times was Koplin shot?

Answer: 2

Sid Koplin was laying in the snow. He had been shot in the stomach and another bullet had grazed his skull. In order to not be found, he tried to cover himself up with snow so he would not be interrogated. Unfortunately, the guard who had shot him sent his dog and the dog picked up on the scent.
8. Who was the man who picked Koplin up from Netvia Zemblia?

Answer: Dirk Pitt

As Koplin is being dragged across the snow, he suddenly hears the dog keel over and then the guard gets shot between the eyes. All of the sudden, a man shows up and picks up Koplin and takes him off the island before Koplin passes out from loss of blood.
9. Pitt avoided radar by flying low and keeping air speed down.

Answer: True

Pitt later explained that if he had been caught on the radar, it would've only shown as a small fishing vessel.
10. Was Captain Prevlov starting to get suspicious of what the Americans were up to?

Answer: Yes

Prevlov was getting curious. The First Attempt (which was the ship dispatched to pick up Koplin) was supposed to be conducting plankton studies off North Carolina. Without any hard evidence, it was difficult to know what the Americans were up to. Margonian, who is Prevlov's aide, also pointed out that there was a helicopter flying TOWARDS the American research ship from the island.
11. Where was Koplin taken to after he arived in the states?

Answer: Walter Reed Medical Center

After Koplin was taken to the hospital, Seagram and Donner went to visit to get what information they could from him about Netvia Zemblia. Of course, Koplin was under the influence of morphine and other drugs so he couldn't talk long. He was able to tell them what he could about the Byzanium.
12. How much Byzanium could be extracted from Betnia Mountain?

Answer: teaspoonful

When asked about how much Byzanium could be extracted, Koplin grunted that with luck maybe a teaspoon full. Seagram and Donner assumed the Russians were already there and mined the ore.
13. Who did Koplin say had mined the ore if it wasn't the Russians?

Answer: Coloradans

Koplin stated before he passed out that it was the Coloradans that mined the ore. But, he could not give further information on how he knew or suspected them because he was back in a deep sleep again.
14. What reference did the Americans use to name the Cecilian Project?

Answer: chess strategy move

As Margonian was telling Prevlov about the Cecilian Progect, he stated that he did some research on the name "Cecily". He found a more prominent reference to "a band of gangsters and hoolagans". Prevlov corrected him and said it was called the mafia.

After annoying Prevlov with two more references, Prevlov thought of something. He told Margonian about a brilliant chess player by the name of Isaac Borlovslovsky. He created many chess moves played today and one of them was called the "Cecilian Defense." Since the Cecilian Project is for defending the U.S., Prevlov is guessing that this is the reference the Americans are using.
15. What did Margonian remove from the cars in the garage?

Answer: windshield wipers

Margonian was searching both cars because he is actually an intelligence spy for the CIA. He had found a black Ford sedan and written down the license number of it. So that it looked like a burglar hit Prevlov's garage, he removed the wipers off both cars. It is a national pastime in Russia.
