Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the author of 'Memoirs of a Geisha'?

Answer: Arthur Golden

A hugely popular book....one to recommend if I can't think of anything else. Problem is, most people have read it.
2. How many separate volumes make up 'Lord of the Rings' by JRR Tolkien, as first published?

Answer: 3

Although Tolkien always envisaged 'The Lord of the Rings' as a single work, it was originally published in three smaller volumes, for practical reasons. They are 'The Fellowship of the Ring', 'Two Towers' and 'Return of the King'. Each volume is composed of two sections, referred to as books.
'The Hobbit' is not considered part of 'The Lord of the Rings', although it shares some characters and events with the trilogy.
Tolkien's original vision of a single volume containing all six sections was achieved in the 50th Anniversary Edition, published in 2004.
3. Which if the following is not a book by Marian Keyes?

Answer: Lucy's Holiday

Marian Keyes did write one called 'Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married' and 'Rachel's Holiday'.
4. What is the last title in the John Marsden 'Tomorrow When the War Began' series?

Answer: The Other Side of Dawn

This is one of the most popular series for Australian teenagers. It was pretty good, but it did drag on a bit. Seven books were a bit too much.
5. Bryce Courtenay wrote a book that was based on his son's life. What was it?

Answer: April Fools Day

His son was a haemophiliac who contracted AIDS through a blood transfusion.
6. Who wrote 'Snow Falling On Cedars'?

Answer: David Guterson

Then they made it into a movie. He also wrote another book called 'East Of The Mountains'.

Answer: Sandra Cabot

Apparently the liver is the key to losing weight.
8. Which famous TV chef wrote the two books 'The Naked Chef' and 'The Return Of The Naked Chef'?

Answer: Jamie Oliver

Very popular, mostly because people think he is cute, I suspect. His third book is due for release in Australia in October in 2001
9. Who wrote the classic children's picture book 'Where The Wild Things Are'?

Answer: Maurice Sendak

Written back in the 50s and still a classic.
10. Which one of Margaret Atwood books won the Booker Prize?

Answer: The Blind Assassin

She got nominated for 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'Alias Grace' but didn't win.
11. Wilbur Smith is the author of which of the following?

Answer: Monsoon

Clive Cussler wrote 'Atlantis Found', James Patterson wrote 'Pop Goes the Weasel' and I made 'Raging' up. Though Wilbur Smith did write a book called 'Rage'.
12. Who wrote the very popular 'Angela's Ashes' and 'Tis'?

Answer: Frank McCourt

They made this into a movie, too. His brother, Malachy McCourt has also written two books.
13. Which of the following books was written by the Dalai Lama?

Answer: The Art Of Happiness

I think he's cashing in on his spiritual status. A good Mother's Day gift.
14. Which book by Helen Fielding was made into a 2001 movie starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant?

Answer: Bridget Jones's Diary

This was ok....book was way better. Helen Fielding also wrote a sequel titled 'The Edge Of Reason'.
