Anthony Trollope worked as a civil servant for many years. His 'Barchester' and 'Palliser' novels are eminently readable and, at various times have been adapted for TV. In 'Barchester' Trollope depicts the modus operandi of the Anglican Church hierarchy of mid-nineteenth century Britain.

The 'Palliser' novels follow a family saga - the Pallisers/ Dukes of Omnium and the political class of the nation.

Answer: William Wordsworth

Wordsworth, who was from Cumbria, enjoyed thirty mile walks to see friends. Appointed Poet Laureate when he had done his best work, such as 'Lyrical Ballads', he lived from 1770 to 1850.

Answer: The Crimean War

Tennyson's poem 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' was based on an incident in the Crimean War. Tennyson was born in 1809, an elder son of a landed family. As he was somewhat physically disabled, his family decided that another relation should succeed to the landholding. Tennyson then could pour his energies into his poetry.
