Rubbish Superheroes Trivia Quiz

Superheroes aren't always all-powerful beings, harmed only by lumps of green rock. Some who have appeared in publications over the years are frankly ridiculous. Which of the below are real, and which did I make up?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is a real comic series, involving an agent of the church who fights evil with magical powers?

Answer: Warrior Nun

I'm not a comics fan, and having seen some of the artwork for "Warrior Nun" while researching this quiz, I'm quite pleased about it. Honestly lads - go out more.
2. There is a superhero called "The Gay Ghost".

Answer: True

It's true. Rather disappointingly, his abilities relate to the "Ghost" part of his name - eg. the ability to drift through walls and similar. He was apparently later renamed "the Grim Ghost" (thanks RandomMoth).
3. Most people have heard of "Captain America", but which of the following is a European counterpart?

Answer: Captain Britain

I should imagine that Captain Britain's powers include super-politeness, and the ability to scald enemies with cosmic tea. Unfortunately, there is no Captain Belgium. At least until I learn to draw comics.
4. Which of these office-related superheroes has actually appeared in print?

Answer: Rubberband Man

Apparently, while Rubberband Man has the ability to stretch his body, he makes an unfortunate squeaky sound while doing so.
5. There is a superhero called "The Ketchup Avenger", with the power of cosmic tomato sauce.

Answer: False

Sadly, no.
6. Is the "The Flaming Carrot" real?

Answer: Yes

The Flaming Carrot was a superhero with no powers, but who wore a mask in the shape of an enormous carrot, with flames shooting out of the top. He appeared with the "Mystery Men", a bunch of useless superheroes, but didn't make it into the recent movie.
7. Which of the following has the ability to make their body swell up like a balloon and pound enemies?

Answer: Bouncing Boy

Yes, apparently Bouncing Boy (secret identify Chuck Taine) can inflate his body into a soft, bouncy spheroid that can bounce off things like a pinball. We can all sleep safely in our beds.
8. Which of the following was a published superhero's companion?

Answer: Beppo the Super Monkey

This is almost worse than a superhero with rubbish superpowers - proper bona fide superpowers in the hands of a monkey.
9. The "Green Lantern" is a quite famous and powerful superhero, but who at one point had a really stupid weakness. What was he powerless against?

Answer: The Colour Yellow

The official line is that whatever cosmic beings created him decided to build in a weakness in case he ever got too big for his green boots. I suspect in reality the comic writer had a brother-in-law in the yellow ink business.

This is his weakness in the "Silver Age" version; in the "Golden Age" version he had a weakness for anything made of wood. Go figure.
10. Was there a superhero called "The J Cloth" with the ability to absorb nasty spills and leakages?

Answer: No

No. Of course there wasn't.
