Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There once was a king of the Brits ... whose wife was the absolute pits ... she plotted the slaughter ... of his only daughter ... till her son was cut up into bits.

Answer: Cymbeline

Astonishingly, despite various decapitations and attempted poisonings, Cymbeline is officially classed as a "Comedie". As I've remarked before in FunTrivia Quizzyland, Shakespeare has a somewhat different idea of comedy than most.
2. The Queen and the General's flirtin' ... got the Emperor's goat it was certain ... but the greatest despair ... for this ancient world pair ... was the movie with Taylor and Burton.

Answer: Antony and Cleopatra

The Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor film, telling the story of the Egyptian Queen for whom more than one Roman fell, was actually just called "Cleopatra". It features some interesting casting - Rex ("Dr Dolittle") Harrison as Julius Caesar and Roddy McDowall (the talking chimpanzee from "Planet of the Apes") as the Emperor Augustus.
3. This hunchbacked and murderous king ... was a wicked and dastardly thing ... he killed his nephew ... but then he got killed too ... That's what you get for u-sur-ping.

Answer: Richard III

Apparently the oldest surviving American feature film is a 1912 silent movie version of "Richard III".
4. There was an ethereal imp ... whose master on power didn't skimp ... he conjured a breeze ... that drove ships from the seas ... and made David Blaine look like a wimp.

Answer: The Tempest

"The Tempest" has been made into various films, including Peter Greenaway's highly cerebral "Prospero's Books" and the slightly less so "The Forbidden Planet". The latter film doesn't track Shakespeare absolutely faithfully - among other things, it features a robot that looks just like the robot from "Lost in Space" ("Danger, Will Robinson") which I think is supposed to represent the spirit, Ariel.
5. Mr Bottom was down on his luck ... with an animal's head he was stuck ... and a fair fairy queen ... was excessively keen ... all because of a mischievous Puck.

Answer: A Midsummer Night's Dream

This may be a controversial opinion, but isn't "A Midsummer Night's Dream" just a tad silly?
