Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the short play "Macbeth", who kills Macbeth?

Answer: Macduff

In the climax to this bloody play, Macduff avenges the deaths of his wife and son by killing Macbeth, and Malcolm is crowned king. One may recall the line, "Lay on, Macduff."
2. In "King Lear", who of the following is the only character alive at the end of the play?

Answer: Edgar

Edgar, the son of Gloucester, survives the play and is therefore crowned king.
3. Who murders Desdemona?

Answer: Othello

Othello kills the girl he loves because of the the evil deceit of the villianous Iago.
4. According to SHAKESPEARE (not Plutarch), how many times was Julius Caesar stabbed?

Answer: 33

The numbers vary from source to source. Some may say 18, others say 23. However many times it was, it is clear that the senators who did the killing went a little overboard.
5. In the classic "Hamlet", Claudius killed his brother Hamlet Senior, the king, by poisoning him. Into what opening did Claudius drip the poison?

Answer: In his ear

Hamlet Sr. was sleeping in the orchard when Claudius dripped the poison in his ear. Claudius did this so that he could be crowned king.
6. In Shakespeare's most brutal play, who cuts up the sons of Tamora and serves them in a pie for their mother to eat?

Answer: Titus Andronicus

This play is, I think is safe to say, Shakespeare's most bloody work. During a banquet at the end of the play, Titus feeds Tamora her dead sons in a pie and then kills her.
7. In "Hamlet", how does Hamlet kill Claudius?

Answer: Stabs him & forces him to drink poison

After an unfair duel with Laertes in which Hamlet was stabbed with a poisoned sword, Hamlet kills evil Claudius and forces the poisoned wine down his throat.
8. In "Julius Caesar", what is the REAL reason the mob murders Cinna the Poet?

Answer: His name is Cinna

Quite sad. It wasn't his fault his parents named him Cinna. The mob, enraged by Antony's funeral oration, killed the Poet just because he shared the name of one of the conspirators. When Cinna tries to deny his guilt, some people yell out "Kill him for his bad verses!" and slay the poor guy.
9. In "Romeo and Juliet", who is the only character to die of natural causes?

Answer: Lady Montague

Lady Montague dies of grief when her son, Romeo, is banished from Verona. Both Tybalt and Paris are killed by Romeo, and Friar Lawrence doesn't die.
10. Shakespeare invented the word "thantosicighafication", meaning "the triggering of other deaths by one initial death," and is the longest word written in his plays.

Answer: False

The word doesn't exist. However, even if it did, it would be outstripped by Shakespeare's longest word, which is "honorificabilitudinitatibus".
