Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the band who produced the song "Virgin Suicide"?

Answer: Cruel Crux

Strange that they were called the virgin suicides because it was plainly obvious that Lux was not a virgin by the time of her death. Though BleedingWhiteRose offered the explanation that maybe the title referred to the boys since they were dead from the beginning in a way, and wasted their lives obsessing over the girls. So that when the girls suicided, something in them died too.
2. What is Mr. Lisbon's first name?

Answer: Ronald

Interestingly enough, when the boys call the girls on the telephone, the Lisbon listing only has the name Ronald, and not his wife's name as well.
3. The girls were not as perfect as the boys thought they were when they saw them up close. What was one of Bonnie's 'flaws'?

Answer: Very long neck

Bonnie had a very long neck, which made her appear to tower above her sisters. Mary had a moustache, Therese had the cow-like face (and cheeks), and Lux tickled their palms, but it wasn't her flaw. The boys thought that Lux 'radiated health and mischief', though it was said that she did laugh like a hyena.
4. What did the girls use to cover up Cecilia's cut marks on her wrists?

Answer: Bracelets

Apparently, she had so many on that she was most likely wearing all of the girls' bracelets, since they weren't wearing any. They were fixed to her arms by masking tape.
5. Where did Lux smoke when she was free from Physical Education (and other times)?

Answer: Top of lockers

Lux would always sign her own name below her forged mothers', as if to try to prove that she had not written them herself.
6. What item of Lux's had the boys souvenired?

Answer: Tube top

They got a hold of one Lux's tube tops somehow, but the strand of hair was Mary's, and the high tops were Cecilia's, both of which were souvenired. But the stuffed iguana was Therese's, one the girls' things that they hadn't actually stolen for the themselves.
7. What did Mrs. Lisbon write on her note to the milkman?

Answer: Stop bringing bad milk!

This led to the milkman not bringing any milk at all in the final months of the girls' lives, and the grocery truck deliveries stopped too. The Lisbons were evidently living off the canned goods that Mrs Lisbon had stockpiled in their bomb shelter.
8. What did Lux say in the middle of making love to Trip?

Answer: I always screw things up.

She cried, "I always screw things up. I always do", and she started sobbing halfway through.
9. Fill the blank. "Trees like lungs, filling with air... my sister, the _____ one, pulling my hair".

Answer: Mean

It's not specified which sister it was, but Cecilia did indeed write, "trees like lungs, filling with air... my sister, the mean one, pulling my hair".
10. Were the girls eating in the final months?

Answer: They didn't seem to.

Men who made love to Lux on her roof while it was raining mentioned how thin she had become, how the basins of her collarbones collected water. And also a neighbour mentioned how Bonnie was wasting away, looking as if her long neck couldn't hold up her head.
11. Which of the girls survived the initial mass suicide?

Answer: Mary

Mary survived her suicide attempt of putting her head in the oven. She stayed in hospital a few weeks, then got out and not long after, overdosed on sleeping pills like her older sister Therese had. But other than Mary, Bonnie, Therese and Lux succeeded on their first attempt.
12. Who had the ham radio that she used to communicate with people while they were imprisoned in the house?

Answer: Therese

One of the boys claimed to have found her frequency a few times, and transcribed what she was talking about.
13. How old was Bonnie?

Answer: Fifteen

Cecilia was 13, Lux was 14, Bonnie was 15, Mary was 16, and Therese was 17.
14. What was the name of one of the colleges that Therese sent away to a week before she died, which the media made a big deal about?

Answer: Brown

The newspeople found that very interesting, that she had expressed interest in attending a college when she was actually intending to die.
15. What is Lux doing when the boys are coming to drive the girls to Florida (or so the boys think)?

Answer: Smoking

Lux is sitting in a beanbag, smoking. The boys are looking in through the window at her.
16. There was a brassiere hanging on a crucifix in the Lisbon house. The boys later stole it. To whom did the brassiere belong to?

Answer: Lux

The boys stole a lot of the girls things, as pieces that would bring back their memory.
17. True or False: Bonnie introduced herself at the girls' first (and only) party as Bonnie.

Answer: False

She introduced herself as Bonaventure. It is not specified if she called herself Bonaventure for fun, or if it was actually her full name.
18. Who took Spanish as a class?

Answer: Therese

Her teacher said that Therese could 'speak Spanish, but not feel it'.
19. What adjective was used to describe the kind of blonde Mary was?

Answer: Dishwater

The boys had a strand of Mary's "dishwater blonde" hair on a ball of cotton wool in a box.
20. Finally, as an aside, what was the name of Trip's father's partner?

Answer: Donald

Trip's father didn't question his son's actions due to 'the iffiness of his own conduct'.
