Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unlike Rogue Squadron, which was formed by the best of the best, Wraith Squadron was created using washouts, and pilots looking for one last chance. Each pilot had a story that got them into that situation. One in particular had trouble controlling his multiple personalities, a natural feature of his species. Which Wraith had multiple personalities?

Answer: Hohass "Runt" Ekwesh

Runt got his nickname because he was the smallest of his litter. Even so, he was barely able to squeeze into an X-wing. He was paired with Kell Tainer during training, and ended up staying as part of that pair once the squadron was formalized.

Runt was a Thakwaash, a species known for having different "minds". Normally he was very personable, and easy to be with. When Runt got into a fighter, though, or in particular when the fighting got heavy, his "pilot brain" would take over. The Pilot did not listen to orders or work with wing men. It would wildly unleash warcries, and attack any enemies it saw. While Kell was supposed to be the leader, with Runt covering him, Runt would tear off on his own, forcing Kell to become the wing man just to give both of them a chance at surviving a dogfight.

With Kell's help, Runt was able to control his pilot brain, and became a productive member of the squadron.
2. Being able to pull off a convincing ruse became a staple of Wraith Squadron. In order to do so, though, they had to be able to impersonate Imperial units, pirate gangs, and ignorant tourists. Which Wraith had a penchant for acting and languages?

Answer: Garik "Face" Loran

Garik Loran started life as a child actor for Imperial propaganda productions. They were very successful, and he became known as "The Face". When he grew older, he saw the barbarism of the Imperials. He ended up in the middle of a conflict between Rebels and the Empire, and both sides thought he had perished.

He slipped away, and led a quiet life until deciding to join the New Republic military. He first got in by buying his own starfighters, but after crashing two, decided it would be more cost effective if he wasn't the one paying for them. Face's acting ability and knowledge of Imperial personalities later enabled him to accurately portray the captain of the Night Caller during the Wraith's ruse.
3. The Force played a large role in the Star Wars universe. However, not everyone who could sense the Force could use it the way the Jedi and Sith did. Which Wraith had small amount of Force sensitivity?

Answer: Tyria Sarkin

Tyria described her ability with the Force as enough to sense it, but not enough to use it. This was still enough to give her an edge as a stealth and infiltration expert. Tyria suffered from self-esteem issues, often seeing herself as the least of her peers. She even had the lowest training score of all the pilots accepted into Wraith Squadron, ignoring the fact that she was still tenth out of forty-three. Her pilots helped her gain her confidence, and she became a primary contributor to the squadron.

She would later go on to become a trained Jedi, and even a Master.
4. The New Republic was not as human-centric as the Empire was. As a result, more non-humans had opportunities to fly in NR squadrons. Which Wraith was a Bothan?

Answer: Eurrsk "Grinder" Thri'ag

Bothans were a "cat-like" species, often known for their political machinations and excellent spy network. It was a group of Bothan spies that recovered the plans for the second Death Star, at great cost. The Bothan government would continue to bring up their sacrifice many years into the future, and often dismiss the contributions of other species. They would also usually ignore the part where the Empire deliberately leaked the plans as bait.

Grinder was like many Bothans: proud, quiet, and enigmatic. He was the squadron's slicer, and was responsible for hacking into computer systems. He also turned out to be quite the prankster, despite openly denouncing pranks as childish and distracting.
5. The pilots of the New Republic had many different backgrounds and origins. Which Wraith came from the planet of Tatooine, just like the famous Luke Skywalker?

Answer: Falynn Sandskimmer

Falynn Sandskimmer, by all accounts, had a similar life to Luke Skywalker's. However, while Skywalker became a hero of the Rebel Alliance and a Jedi, she remained an ordinary human. Despite never meeting the man, people would often compare her to the famous pilot, or ask her if she'd met the legend. She quickly grew to resent Luke Skywalker.

You may have been able to identify the Tatooine woman just by her name. Many Tatooine names are easy to identify, such as: Skywalker, Darklighter, Sandskimmer, and Whitesun, just to name a few.
6. In "Star Wars", ships could travel faster than light, and real-time communication between sources lightyears apart was possible. This required some very fancy technology, and the Wraiths needed someone who could understand, use, and repair their communications gear. Who was the Wraith's communications expert?

Answer: Jesmin Ackbar

Jesmin was responsible for monitoring communications channels, and filtering them for relevant information, such as indications of an ambush. She was also responsible for being able to use all the New Republic communications protocols and scrambling techniques to make sure the Wraiths could covertly and safely contact their superiors.
7. As commandos, the Wraiths had to become familiar with a large variety of small arms that they could use in the field. Which Wraith was known for their particular proficiency with pistols?

Answer: Wes Janson

Wes Janson was a crackshot with small arms, and was particularly fond of blaster pistols. When assigning commando roles to the new squadron, Wedge mentioned that anyone who wanted extra practice should seek Wes out. His leadership and pistol skills proved very useful during the Wraith's ground missions.
8. Every squadron could not run on its own. Each one needed support staff to help it function properly. Who played the role of quartermaster for the Wraiths?

Answer: Squeaky

A quarter master was responsible for the logistics of housing the pilots, and seeing to their material needs. Squeaky was an interesting quartermaster. He was a protocol droid who belonged to no one, and had developed a bit of an attitude. He was originally a server at the bar on the training base, before being hired by Wedge.

While Squeaky could be sassy and difficult to work with, the squadron learned to deal with him. They learned that, as long as they were respectful, they could expect competent service from him.
9. X-wings usually had a slot for an astromech droid to help the pilot. Each pilot had their own astromech, and the little droids would develop unique personality quirks. Often the pilots would become quite attached to their droids. What was the name of Myn Donos' astromech?

Answer: Shiner

After the attack on the Blood Nest, most of the squadron was grieving over their first loss: Jesmin Ackbar. All, that is, except for Myn Donos. Myn lost his astromech, Shiner, during the battle, and was desperately trying to fix the droid. His fellow pilots were initially confused and angry with Myn's behavior, but eventually learned why he was acting strangely. Shiner was the only other survivor of Talon Squadron, which Myn was leading when it was ambushed and destroyed. With the destruction of his droid, he felt he had managed to get every member of his old squadron killed. Once his squadron knew his secret, they were able to help him recover.

Wedge had his astromech's memory wiped. Its factory designation was G8, which he turned into Gate. Face, with a sick and twisted sense of humor, named his astromech Vape. Whistler was Corran Horn's astromech, from Michael A. Stackpole's novels.
10. Wes Janson's first kill was not actually an Imperial pilot. He had to shoot down one of his own squadmates who had become unstable, in order to save his mission. Years later, the child of that dead pilot would be a Wraith candidate. Whose father did Wes kill?

Answer: Kell Tainer's

Kell Tainer was the last candidate Wedge met with. When he realized that Wes Janson was also going to be training the squadron, Kell immediately tried to rescind his application. His profile said he was from Sluis Van, but that wasn't the whole story.

Kell's original last name was Doran, and he was from Alderaan. Kell's father, Kissek Doran, flew with the Tierfon Yellow Aces during the early Rebellion, along with Wes Janson. During an ambush, Kissek panicked and fled. Wes was ordered to bring him back or shoot him down so he would not reveal the ambush. Wes tried to shoot down Kissek's craft gently, but the old equipment did not function well, and Kissek died. It was Wes Janson's first kill.

Kell and Wes were forced the work together, though they were never comfortable around each other.
