Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the occupation of Rincewind?

Answer: Wizard

He wasn't a particularly adept wizard; he had left Unseen University only knowing one spell, and he didn't actually know what it was. It had jumped into his head when he peeked into a restricted book, and try as he might, he wasn't able to use the spell. He did get the dryads to read the spell in his mind, which had a terrifying effect on them.
2. What particular skill did Rincewind have that was useful to the tourist, Twoflower?

Answer: He spoke Trob

Twoflower had a phrase book, which helped him communicate in the language of Ankh-Morpork, but his use of the language was awkward. Rincewind was particularly skilled in languages, and after trying a number of them to communicate with Twoflower, he was finally successful with Trob. Twoflower didn't come from Trob, but he had picked up the language from Trobi sailors who visited his native land of Bes Pelargic.
3. What was Twoflower's occupation?

Answer: Insurance clerk

The concept of insurance was apparently unknown in Ankh-Morpork; the natives refer to it as "inn-sewer-ants", mimicking Twoflower's pronounciation. Things went awry in Ankh-Morpork after Twoflower sold a policy to the publican, Broadman, at The Broken Drum tavern.
4. What followed Twoflower around on many little legs?

Answer: His luggage

This was no ordinary luggage. Besides being mobile, it had a strong devotion to its owner and a ferocious temper. Rincewind's main interest in the luggage was that it was made from sapient pearwood, which, because of its magical properties, made excellent wizards' staffs.
5. Why did Twoflower and Rincewind leave Ankh-Morpork?

Answer: It was on fire

The fire started in Morpork, and the wealthier citizens of Ankh across the river responded to the plight of the Morporkeans by destroying the bridges connecting the two cities. However the ships on the Morpork side of the river were ablaze, and they drifted over to Ankh, setting the city alight.

The fire was ignited by Broadman, the publican at The Broken Drum. He had decided to take advantage of the "inn-sewer-ants polly-sea" that he had purchased from Twoflower.
6. Who did Rincewind run into periodically in the novel?

Answer: Death

Rincewind first ran into Death in a crowded bazaar in Morpork, and Death was surprised to see him; he was expecting to "collect" Rincewind in Psephopololis, five hundred miles away. Death later showed up at other places such as the Broken Drum tavern and in the forest when he tried to convince Rincewind to drop from a branch of a tree into a pack of wolves (Death claimed it wouldn't hurt).
7. Twoflower carried a box around his neck that contained an imp and could be used with an attached cage of salamanders. What type of device was it?

Answer: A camera

Twoflower called it an iconograph or his picture box. When the button was pushed, the device would produce a little glass portrait created by the imp, who was also referred to as a demon. The salamander attachment was a type of flash bulb. The pink salamanders would absorb light and then expel it when the picture was taken.
8. Rincewind, Twoflower and Hrun the Barbarian were taken by dragons to Wyrmberg. What was unusual about the dragons?

Answer: They were imaginary

Wyrmberg existed in a magical field, and merely thinking of dragons (for those who truly believed in them) would conjure up a dragon. As the dragons flew away from the Wyrmberg, they became transparent; as they flew back to their home, they became solid.
9. Rincewind and Twoflower escaped from Wyrmberg on Twoflower's dragon, but Twoflower soon passed out from the altitude, and they fell into what sort of conveyance?

Answer: A plane

It was actually a TWA plane, as we learned from the label on the luggage. Not only had Rincewind and Twoflower fallen into the plane, but they had turned into Dr. Rjinswand and Jack Zweiblumen. Zweiblumen remained unconscious while Rjinswand managed to unwittingly foil a hijacking before they fell from the plane into the Circle Sea.
10. At the end of "The Colour of Magic", Rincewind and Twoflower were to be sacrificed in Krull to ensure the success of a mission to find out the sex of the Great A'Tuin. They escaped but what happened to them?

Answer: They went off the edge of the Disc

While in the sea, Rincewind and Twoflower ended up being caught by the Circumfence, a barrier that ran along the Rimfall to catch items that were about to fall off the Disc, and they were taken to Krull to be sacrificed. Instead they escaped (with the help of Lady Luck) and disguised as chelonauts, they headed to the launching pad of the ship that was to fly off the Disc to find out the sex of the Great A'Tuin. Rincewind merely wanted to escape, but the adventurous Twoflower jumped at the opportunity to take off in the space ship. Twoflower was launched off the Disc in the ship, and Rincewind and the luggage went over the edge. Rincewind was initially caught on a tree branch on the Rimfall, but it broke and he plunged into the abyss.
