Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chapter One: What did Merlin say applied equally well to magic, as well as apples?

Answer: Physics

Nimue fully understand that "You couldn't pull a rabbit out of a hat, so to speak, without knowing exactly where that rabbit was going to come from and what the likely consequences of its disappearance from Point A and subsequent reappearance at Point B." Merlin insisted that it was irresponsible to do such a thing without considering ethics, spatiotemporal complications, and transmogrificational effects on the sub-ethereal plane.
2. Chapter Two: Where were the captives from St George of the Hill taken?

Answer: Ravens' Rock

Nimue heard one of the guards mention the name and, based on that information, Mordred and Sir Dunsten were able to ascertain who was responsible for the kidnappings.
3. Chapter Three: When Merlin, on the subject of affecting people's minds, said, "Why, you might prevent the invention of the wheel. Think of the sociopolitical consequences of the price of rutabaga if the wheel were never invented," what did Nimue point out?

Answer: That the wheel had already been invented and that rutabagas didn't grow there anyway

Merlin told Nimue not to be obtuse.
4. Chapter Four: Nimue said that Halbert was 'all bent and twisted-worse than ... (who or what)'?

Answer: Richard the Third

Naturally, Mordred and Sir Dunsten had no idea what she was talking about. Nimue lamented that Merlin's references were always getting her into trouble.
5. Chapter Five: After (reluctantly) disguising himself as a tradesman, what kind of bush does Mordred hide his belongings under?

Answer: Gorse

Nimue didn't even bother telling Morded what the chances of them coming this way again and ever finding that particular bush were, because Mordred was Mordred and listened only to himself most of the time anyway.
6. Chapter Six: What did Nimue disguise herself as when sneaking into the castle to rescue the prisoners?

Answer: An insane old woman

At first, her disguise was just an old woman. Then she decided that she might as well go over the top.
7. Chapter Seven: Which of the following devices did Nimue NOT see, or at least didn't recognize, in the torture room?

Answer: Crocodile tube

Ironically, none of them are actually used in the story; the only torture device used was a large barrel of water.
8. Chapter Eight: Who did Mordred ask, "Do you like being this second-rate wizard's lickspittle?"

Answer: Bayard

Mordred seemed to derive great satisfaction from making sarcastic remarks that made the recipients want to kill him. It was a specialty of his.
9. Chapter Nine: What happed to Halbert when he put on Merlin's ring?

Answer: He faded away in amidst a flare of light

Nimue, of course, had nothing to do with the event; it was merely the ring protecting itself. But she kept that information to herself and let Halbert's guards think she was powerful enough to incinerate them.
10. Chapter Ten: How did Lancelot arrive at Ravens' Rock before Sir Dunsten reached Camelot?

Answer: He had been following Mordred and Dunsten

Lancelot didn't trust Mordred, particularly alone with a banished knight. He wanted to be sure they weren't up to any mischief.
