As an Armor officer, he was the commander of Task Force Lowell in Korea. He was also on the Armor Board at Fort Knox, which was a big deal. He did serve as an infantry adviser in Greece. He was commissioned into the finance corps, but only as an excuse to get into an officer's uniform legally, although not ethically.

They were in a fact finding mission for President Eisenhower, to see if America should go in to help Indochina fight the Communists.
