Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the Pooter's house?

Answer: The Laurels

In Mr Pooter's introduction, his address is:
The Laurels,
Brickfield Terrace,
Holloway
2. What is the first illustration of in the book?

Answer: Their house

Weedon Grossmith did the illustrations for the book, and it is supposed that George wrote the text. The story was published chapter-by-chapter in "Punch" magazine, but the illustrations were only added when the story went into book form.
3. What is the object everyone keeps tripping over at the beginning?

Answer: A scraper

In chapter one, on April the 4th, Charles says at the end of his entry: "Must get the scraper removed, or else I shall get into a scrape. I don't often make jokes." You can tell.
4. Charles has a pair of mounted animal heads. What animals are they?

Answer: Stags

Both the heads were made of plaster-of-Paris and were painted brown.
5. What does Charles compare himself to when the bath enamel melts?

Answer: A waxwork in Madame Toussad's

Charles painted the bath tub with red enamel paint, and when he had a relaxing, hot bath the paint melted, and he thought he looked like the waxwork of Marat.
6. What is Lupin's real first name?

Answer: Willie

Chapter six introduces us to Willie Lupin Pooter, the son of Charles and Carrie (his wife, funnily enough), who is engaged three times throughout the novel, though the book finishes before he gets married.
7. To whom is Lupin lastly engaged?

Answer: Lillie Posh

Lupin calls his fiancee Lille Girl.
8. What profit does Charles make investing in Parachikka Chlorates?

Answer: None - he makes a loss of £18

Gowing doesn't lose anything because he didn't trust the investment, Cummings loses £35, and Mr. Murray Posh loses £600! Good revenge, considering that Mrs. Murray Posh was Lupin's first (and second) fiancee.
9. What does Mr. Murray Posh's company sell?

Answer: Hats

The company supposedly sells hats that all cost the same.
10. How does Lupin sign off at the end of the book in reply to his father's letter?

Answer: The same old Lupin

The last entry, July 11, is a happy chapter. Mr. Perkupp, Charles' employer, buys the freehold of The Laurels for the Pooters because of Charles' loyalty to the company; and he sends telegrams to Carrie, Gowing and Cummings to tell them. Lupin's letter brings the news that he's engaged to Lille Girl, and the book ends with "The same old Lupin. THE END"
