Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Ramses, what is the most important part of a disguise?

Answer: movements and gestures

Ramses actually "disguised" himself as himself. He fooled Wardani's men into thinking that he was Wardani disguised as the Brother of Demons. All he actually did was change the way he moved.
2. When Ramses and Amelia are in the garden in "He Shall Thunder in the Sky", what does Ramses compare his mother to?

Answer: a lady dragon

"I discovered years ago that lying to you is a waste of breath. How the devil do you do it? Look at you - ruffles trailing, gloves spotless - blowing out smoke like a little lady dragon and prying into the most intimate secrets of a fellow's life." This part, where Ramses tells Amelia that he's always loved Nefret, is one of my favorite parts in the whole series.
3. Some of the women who loved Ramses ended up dead...and one man. Who was he?

Answer: Asad

Asad was one of Wardani's men. He escaped the oasis he was imprisoned in and was sent to kill Ramses, but because he was in love with him, he couldn't do it and ended up dead himself.
4. What holiday plant does Ramses get sentimental about in "He Shall Thunder in the Sky"?

Answer: mistletoe

Nefret and Ramses had "tried out" the mistletoe the Christmas before in "The Falcon at the Portal". In the year in between, they had slept together and then had a falling out right after. When mistletoe was mentioned in "He Shall Thunder in the Sky", there was a tension in the room - it brought back too many memories.
5. What kind of books is Amelia shocked to find in Ramses' room?

Answer: poetry

Amelia never approved of poetry, so Ramses hid them from her. He blamed his sentimentality about Nefret on his reading too much poetry.
6. In "Children of the Storm", which two women, besides Nefret, does Ramses admit to sleeping with?

Answer: Enid and Layla

...and one or two others, or three or four. Enid was the first. Layla saved Ramses in "The Ape Who Guards the Balance" and it was his way of thanking her. He also slept with Daria, but this was only mentioned in "Guardian of the Horizon". Maryam was clearly attracted to Ramses, but it wasn't mutual. According to Ramses, he slept with them all to "break the spell" of Nefret, but they clearly didn't work.
7. In "He Shall Thunder in the Sky", what does Ramses do with his champagne at the Christmas party?

Answer: pours it in a plant

Ramses was shot while playing Wardani. If he let anyone know that he was hurt, they would catch on to what he was doing and that would be disastrous. He wasn't feeling well enough to drink it, but he couldn't refuse it either, so he poured it in one of Amelia's potted plants.
8. Ramses calls Nefret two names in Arabic when they're getting the papyrus in "The Ape Who Guards the Balance". He translates one of them for her; what is it?

Answer: gazelle

He told her to never mind the other one.
9. Who tells Ramses that the baby Nefret miscarried in "The Falcon at the Portal" was most likely his?

Answer: el-Gharbi

He told Ramses that when Nefret married Geoffrey, Geoffrey would make no demands on her. Nefret never slept with Geoffrey. Therefore, the baby she lost couldn't have been his and had to have been Ramses. The miscarriage was a major cause of guilt for both Nefret and Ramses later in their marriage.
10. Amelia suspects that Ramses went without which article of clothing the whole summer he spent with Sheikh Mohammed?

Answer: shirt

Ramses cut his arm while saving Dolly Bellingham in a garden. When Amelia made Ramses remove his shirt so she could tend to the cut, she noticed that "the upper part of his body was as brown as his face."
