Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the book, Nefret is reading a book written by whom?

Answer: Percy

Percy wrote a book that described how he rescued himself and an Arab prince from captivity. The book is a pack of lies, because Percy made no attempt to free himself. He was going to wait for his ransom to come from the Emersons, and then be freed. The poor Arabic prince he "saved", was actually Ramses in disguise, who let himself be captured so he could save his cousin Percy.
2. Who is accused of making Egyptian forgeries?

Answer: David

David had been the slave of one of the best forgers in Egypt. David is also a skilled artist. Someone made the forgeries and then sold them under David's name.
3. Who do Ramses and Nefret meet while at the Savoy?

Answer: Maude and Jack Reynolds

Maude and Jack Reynolds are American. Jack was working for Mr. Reisner at Giza this particular year. His sister, Maude, takes quite a liking to Ramses, and it gets to be very annoying.
4. Jack has a friend who is a very quiet, gentle man. This man is also an Egyptologist, who is working with Jack for Mr. Reisner at Giza. This man is very fond of Nefret. What is his name?

Answer: Geoffrey

Geoffrey and Jack are close friends, but what we don't find out in this book is that Geoff and Percy are also friends. Percy knew that Nefret liked Geoff and vice versa, so he set it up to have Geoff waiting for Nefret after she ran out of the Emerson's house the day Sennia was brought to them. This way Percy could hurt Ramses worse than he ever had before.
5. Who does Jack blame for Maude's death?

Answer: Ramses

Maude went out, supposedly alone, in the middle of the night, to the sight of the Emerson's excavations. Jack assumes Ramses led her out there, seduced her, and then threw her into the shaft.
6. What is the name of Sennia's mother?

Answer: Rashida

After Kalaan left Sennia at the Emersons, he left with Rashida. Ramses suspects that Percy either killed her or had someone kill her, so she would not reveal that he was the father.
7. Who is responsible for the forgeries and Maude's death?

Answer: Geoffrey

Geoffrey killed Maude, because she knew he was the forger and was going to tell Ramses.
8. Essentially, who is responsible for Geoffrey's death?

Answer: Geoffrey himself

Geoffrey had a gun and was going to shoot Amelia unless everyone did as he wished. Nefret walked over to Jack, who Geoff shot. While Geoff's attention was on Nefret and Jack, Emerson pounced on Geoff, getting rid of the gun after a very brief struggle.

Then, Ramses punches Geoffrey very close to the edge of the shaft. Geoff goes over the edge, but Ramses reaches over and grabs his hand. David then tries to grab Geoff's other hand, but then Geoff scratched Ramses' hand and let himself fall into the shaft, therefore killing himself.
9. After the terrible events of the day of Geoff's death, we find out something was wrong with Nefret. What condition was she in?

Answer: She was pregnant, then miscarried.

Nefret was pregnant, and no one knew. What we find out in "He Shall Thunder in the Sky" is that the baby was not Geoff's, it was Ramses'. After the horrible events of the day, Nefret passes out, then miscarries. After she realized that she lost her baby, she becomes severly depressed. She doesn't really fully recover until about 3 years later, in the next book.
10. Where does the family, except Ramses, go to help Nefret recover?

Answer: Switzerland

The doctor prescribes a nice trip to Switzerland to help Nefret to recover. Ramses does not go, however, because Nefret won't see him and Ramses can't stand to be near her. He goes away for a while, but eventually comes back, in time for the next book at least!
