Bilbo stated this in his birthday speech. A remarkable total, it was the combined age of Bilbo and Frodo and the number of guests Bilbo invited to his special dinner. Of course it is not polite to apply this term to people.

2. Why should you "go not to the elves for counsel"?

Answer: For they will answer both no and yes.

Frodo said this during his conversation with Gildor, after Gildor had said 'do not meddle in the affairs of wizards'. This is at the end of the chapter 'Three is Company'.

3. Elfstone is what kind of gem?

Answer: beryl

Strider found one on the last bridge (Bridge of Mitheithel), "a single pale-green jewel" and took it as a sign that it was safe to cross. It had been left a week earlier by Glorfindel.

The Barrow-wights had clothed the hobbits in thin white rags, crowns and trinkets. Tom had to go and get the horses and bring them new clothes. I sure do wish they had put that scene in the movie.

They missed out on ponies in the movie and while Gandalf was supposed to meet them at the inn in the movie, in the book he was supposed to leave with them from Hobbiton.

Sam called them this because of the neek-breek sound they made. This was during the first couple of days in the marshes.
