Answer: Rachel gets a wish from a leprechaun

Rachel and Ivy both wanted to get out of the I.S. for different reasons. Ivy because of "vampire politics", and Rachel because they were sending her on boring runs, and because they weren't going to promote her. Jenks didn't officially work for the I.S., but wanted to ensure his family's survival, and thought this would be a good way to do it.

Answer: She takes a potion to transform into a mink

Rachel makes an earth magic potion-because, as she says many times, she's an earth witch and doesn't trust ley line magic, to turn into a mouse. She uses hair from Ivy's owl's "droppings" which turns out to be mink hair; instead of turning into a mouse, she turns into a mink.

Answer: Cinnamon and wine

Trent caught Rachel, and caged her in his office for three days. During this time, he tortured her, and drugged her, all the while knowing she could understand what he was saying, and still tried to get her to work for him. During one of the times he was poking at her, she bite him and thought his blood tasted like cinnamon and wine.

This is important information later in the series, as it leads Ivy and Rachel to realize what Trent really is.

Answer: In the city rat fights

Nick had been turned into a rat after he was caught trying to steal a book of magic from a very powerful vampire. After Rachel (as a mink) bit Trent, he realized she wouldn't be broken so easily and put her in the city rat fights. As she was fighting Nick in the "pit" she realized he wasn't just a rat, but a human or some other species that had, like her, been transformed into an animal. Together they escaped the rat fights, and got back to Rachel's church.

Answer: Sterility

Jenks used his wish from the leprechaun to become sterile. He and his wife Matalina had 54 kids. All pixies constantly procreate but it takes a toll on the female pixie having so many kids. Pixie life spans are only about 20 years, Jenks and Matalina were already 18, and he wanted to lengthen their lives any way he could to be with her longer, and make sure their children were ready for the world without them.

Answer: A vampire

The demon said that he was sent to kill Rachel while she was scared. He transformed into Kisten first, who was a friend, and ex lover of Ivy's and also Cincinnati's Master Vampire's scion. But the demon found she wasn't scared enough of him. He shifted into Ivy, Rachel's roommate, who was a living vampire, and who scared the living daylights out of her.

Answer: Her wrist

While the demon, in the form of Ivy, was draining Rachel, Nick circled the demon, which made the demon have to do what Nick said, and stop killing Rachel. As she lay on the floor bleeding out, Nick bargained with the demon for two trips through the ley lines to save Rachel's life.

But it came at a price, she had to accept that she owed the demon a favor to be paid at a later time. Until it s paid, she will wear his mark - a demon scar.

Answer: A vampire dating guide

Ivy gives Rachel a book written for vampire "shadows" or people who follow vampires around just to get the rush of giving them blood, and sex. The guide details what turns vamps on, and what signals a vampire will give you if they are interested, as well as suggestions how to play on a vampire's instincts. Ivy gives this to Rachel to read and learn what not to do.

This book is referenced several times later in the series.

Answer: Files proving that he is trafficking in bio-drugs

While searching for evidence that Trent is dealing in Brimstone, Rachel comes across files and disks that show Trent is dealing in something much worse. Since the Turn happened, all bio-genetic research and medicines, aside from chemotherapy, have been outlawed.

She finds that he is running labs for genetic testing. She keeps this information as insurance that Trent doesn't outright kill her, now that she has blackmail on him.

Answer: The Federal Inderlander Bureau or FIB

When the Turn happened 40 years ago because the T-4 Angel virus killed almost all of the humans on the planet, all government, police agencies included, folded. Once everything had calmed down, the Inderlanders set up the I.S. to police their own kind, as they had been doing throughout history.

The humans were understandably not comfortable with this, and decided they needed to have their own agency to watch their own backs.
