Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We all know that "Mission: Earth" is written in the first person, but who is the first person in question?

Answer: All of these

All of these names, and several others, are used by the actual main character, Soltan Griz, of the Co-ordinated Information Apparatus. Soltan is, to be polite, a Royal pain in the neck.
2. What is the name of the Royal Officer that the main character is forced to recruit for "Mission: Earth"?

Answer: Jettero Heller

Jettero Heller, of Manco, Grade X Fleet Combat Engineer, Royal Officer, Bullet Ball champion, Hero, and all around Nice Guy, is first kidnapped by the C.I.A. (Co-ordinated Information Apparatus) to cover up a report on Earth, and then recruited by Officer Griz, also of the C.I.A. to, he thinks, save the planet Earth from itself.
3. Also known as Lissus Moam, which gorgeous blonde female is ordered to take the position of trainer for the above Royal Officer?

Answer: Countess Krak

O.K., it's obviously not Dorothy Gale, so it must be the highly feared, and offically dead, Countess Krak. Born to a family of circus entertainers, where she learned her training skills, the Countess Krak was forced into training a group of children to commit burglaries, for which she was sentenced to death.
4. Why does Lombar Hisst (leader of the C.I.A.) wish "Mission: Earth" to fail?

Answer: Earth is the only source of Drugs

Lombar, who is more than slightly insane, has developed a plan based on Earth Psychology, to addict the Council of Lords, and incidentally the Emperor of Voltar, to heroin and amphetamines, turning them into puppets. He also hopes that one day he can become Emperor, even though he was born to the lowest class on Voltar.
5. The Royal Officer who is selected for "Mission: Earth" purchases a spaceship for use in the mission, known as "Tug One", that he rechristens as "Prince Caucalasia". What highly feared type of engines power this ship?

Answer: Will-Be-Was Time Drive

The Will-Be-Was Time Drive functions through gravitational falsification. One half of the Drive creates a fraudulant planetary mass just to the rear of the ship. The other half of the Drive reads this mass, says to itself that the mass in question is no longer there, and pushes it away, causing forward motion. Thus the name, Will-Be-Was.

This Drive is the fastest known engine in the Voltar Confederacy. However, "Tug One's" sister ship "Tug Two" was destroyed by these engines, and therefore "Tug One" was decommisioned. (Side Notes: The Alderson Point Jump Engines are from "The Mote in God's Eye", by Jerry Pournelle.; The "Antimatter Space Warp Drive" is a long winded name for the Warp Engines of Star Trek fame.

The "Quantum Singualrity Subspace Impeller" is an acurate description of the drive from "The Starwolf Trilogy" by David Gerrold.)
6. Which incredibly powerful Earth figure does Lombar Hisst desire to emulate on Voltar?

Answer: Delbert John Rockecenter

Delbert John Rockecenter, through use of drugs and psychology, has raised himself from a nobody, to the unclaimed title of Emperor of Earth. Hisst, born a commoner, wishes to use drugs and psychology to gain control of Voltar in the same way. As a side note, both of them are quite, quite mad.
7. What is the name of the mountain range the main character becomes stranded in?

Answer: The Blike Mountains

For three weeks Gris, and his driver Ske, were stranded in the Blike Mountains. Gris descibes this time as an "idyll of primitive atavism", as he spends most of it pursuing his favorite activity, hunting songbirds.
8. An Earth captive, named Gunsalvo Silva, is brought to Voltar shortly before the launch of the "Prince Caucalasia" and the official beginning of "Mission: Earth". What profession did this captive practice on Earth?

Answer: Mafia Hitman

Unknown to Gris, Gunsalmo will, much later, be instrumental in "Mission: Earth", and not in good ways.
9. What item in box # 1 does the scientist tell Lombar Hisst will cause the most problems on Earth?

Answer: Elementary School Kit # 13

"But that's just kids stuff!" sneered Lombar.
"Yes, I know Chief. But I know your intense interest in not disturbing Earth's fuels. And that particular kit is "Elementary School Kit # 13". It's the complete set needed for laboratory bench-type lectures to atomically convert carbon up two atomic numbers to oxygen or carbon down five numbers to hydrogen. And Chief, in a primitive fire society such as Blito-P3, hydrogen and oxygen are the primary fuels."
10. What is the name of the robot brain in the Translatophone that was used to transcribe these novels from Voltarian to English?

Answer: 54 Charlee Nine

Poor old 54 Charlee Nine. Not only was he restricted from using curse words in the novel (being forced to transcribe them only as BEEPs), but the very act act of the translation, over the course of the series, nearly drove him insane.
