When African hunter Richard Scott arrives at the Unkerton's house party with his new wife, knowing a woman from his past will be there, the result is double murder, a legendary cavalier's head stain that mysteriously appears on a certain window, and the sudden appearance of Mr Quin, who points out all the right clues, solving the murder with almost supernatural cleverness.
3. In 'At the Bells and Motley', some famous thefts had occurred in which country?

Answer: France

When Mr Satterthwaite's chauffeured car breaks down in isolated Kirtlington Mallet, he seeks refuge at the local inn, the Bells and Motley, where he finds only one other guest, Mr Quin. The problem at hand is poor Mary, the innkeeper's daughter whose fiancé, Stephen, is being unjustly charged with doing away with his former employer at the Grange.
4. In 'The Sign in the Sky', what date did Lady Vivian Barnaby die?

Answer: 13th

Friday 13th of September to be exact. Mr Satterthwaite attends the trial of young Martin Wilde for the murder of Lady Vivien Barnaby at her home, Deering Hill. Shortly after the guilty verdict is returned, Satterthwaite runs into his mysterious friend, Mr Harley Quin. Together they unravel why the maid's report of an ominous pattern of smoke from a train smokestack the day of the murder landed her a high-paying job abroad.
5. In 'The Soul of the Croupier', where is the short story set?

Answer: Monte Carlo

Mr Satterthwaite, on his annual jaunt to Monte Carlo, finds himself, in the company of Mr Quin, caught in an unhappy love triangle involving the charming, naïve young American Franklin Rudge, Elizabeth Martin, the pretty young American girl who obviously loves him, and the glamorous, fashionable Countess Czarnova, many years Franklin's senior.
6. In "The Man from the Sea", how did the owner of La Paz's husband die?

Answer: Drowned

Satterthwaite has deserted the Riviera for a Mediterranean island, where, in the garden of a villa called La Paz, he encounters a stranger, Anthony Cosden, just as Cosden is about to leap to his death. Satterthwaite learns that this was not Cosden's first attempt. Just the night before, a tall, dark, otherworldly character - Mr Harley Quin, of course - had stayed his first attempt. Satterthwaite learns that Cosden's unhappy past is linked to a reclusive woman on the island, and helps bring some happiness into the man's life.
7. In 'The Voice in the Dark', in which county is Abbots Mead?

Answer: Wiltshire

In Cannes, Mr Satterthwaite meets his old friend Lady Barbara Stranleigh, rich and remarkable beautiful for her years, who asks him to look into her daughter Margery's disturbing reports that the family seat, Abbot's Mead, is haunted.
8. In 'The Voice in the Dark', what was the boat called, in which Beatrice Barton supposedly drowned?

Answer: Uralia

Back in England, after a not-unusual encounter with Mr Quin, Satterthwaite finds himself looking into the tragedy of many years before, when Lady Barbara's elder sister was killed in the sinking of the liner Uralia. It is dead sister Beatrice that seems to be haunting her surviving relatives.
9. In 'The Voice in the Dark', how did Lady Stranleigh die?

Answer: Drowning

Before her death, Lady Stranleigh did receive a box of poisoned chocolates, supposedly from her daughter.
10. In 'The Face of Helen', where in London does Gillian West live?

Answer: Chelsea

At Convent Garden for a performance, Mr Satterthwaite spots Mr Quin during the interval. They witness a fight outside the opera house: two men engaged in fisticuffs while a female companion cowers against a wall. The girl turns out to be Gillian West, caught in a life-or-death struggle between two men who love her.
11. In 'The Face of Helen', what colour glass is the ornament that Philip Eastney gave Gillian West, as part of a wedding present?

Answer: Green

Gillian West chooses Charlie Burns over Philip Eastney. Philip seems to accept this. He is a glass blower by profession and also knows a lot about chemicals.
12. In 'The Dead Harlequin', whereabouts is a priest's hiding place, at Charnley?

Answer: Oak Parlour

Mr Satterthwaite attends the London exhibit of up-and-coming artist Frank Bristow, where he sees a remarkable painting by the artist. The painting depicts a Harlequin, with a face resembling that of Satterthwaite's friend Mr Quin, standing over his dead twin.

The setting is the terrace room at Charnley, which Satterthwaite recognises as the place where Lord Charnley shot himself fourteen years before.
13. In 'The Bird with the Broken Wing', what is the Keeley's home called?

Answer: Laidell

While Mr Satterthwaite is staying with friends, some younger guests are holding a table-turning and rapping séance. Among the garbled and somewhat nonsensical messages is one clear one: QUIN and LAIDELL. Mr Satterthwaite hurries to Laidell, the home of the Kelley's. Before long, there is a tragic death, at Laidell, and Satterthwaite, with the help of a message from Mr Quin, correctly determines that it wasn't suicide but murder.
14. In 'The World's End', what jewel was supposedly stolen from Rosina Nunn, the actress?

Answer: Opal

Mr Satterthwaite has come to Corsica with his friend the Duchess of Leith, where they meet the duchess's cousin Naomi Carlton-Smith. Naomi is distraught, even suicidal, because her fiancé, Alec Gerard, has been accused of stealing a valuable opal from famed stage actress Rosina Nunn, who is herself in Corsica. On a drive around the rugged island, Satterthwaite and Naomi meet none other than Mr Quin, who quickly puts things to right concerning the missing jewels.
15. And finally, in 'Harlequin's Lane', whereabouts do the Denmans live?

Answer: Melton Heath

While visiting with the rather dull, conventional Denmans, Mr Satterthwaite unexpectedly meets Mr Quin on a road called Harlequin's Lane, which ends at a rubbish heap, the site of the Denmans' first and happier home. Later, a harlequinade at the Denmans' present home, complete with Pierrot, Harlequin, and Columbine, the classic characters from the commedia dell'arte, has a profound influence on the lives of those living on Harlequin's Lane.
