Answer: Guan Yu's helmet

Guan Yu was pursuing Huang Zhong to the Changsha Bridge. Huang Zhong, knowing he stood no chance against Guan Yu's might, pulled his bow and aimed for Guan Yu's helmet. The arrow hit, causing Guan Yu to retreat due to Huang Zhong's excellent archery. Huang Zhong didn't kill Guan Yu because he saw Guan Yu as honorable.
2. Why did Cao Cao cut off his beard at the Battle of Tong Gate?

Answer: To save his life

In the confused battle at Tong Gate, Ma Chao ordered Cao Cao to be found. He was decribed as an old man with a long beard. Cao Cao, fearing to be caught, cut off his beard with a knife. So he was really saving his life by doing it.

He was only thirty-six years old.

In the Battle of Dingjun Mountain, Huang Zhong rushed Xiahou Yuan, Wei's fiercest general at the time. Chasing him all the way to his tent, Huang Zhong lifted his mighty sword and beheaded Xiahou Yuan. This loss lowered Wei's morale tremendously.

Guan Yu was surely one of the greatest and most popular heroes in all the Three Kingdoms period. He and his son, Guan Ping, were captured and sent to Sun Quan. Sun Quan wanted Guan Yu to join him, but Guan Yu's strength and might scared Sun Quan too much, and he had Guan Yu, and his son Guan Ping, beheaded.

Zhang Fei, after hearing of his brother Guan Yu's death, wanted revenge. Leading an army to engage Sun Quan, he beat his men and diciplined them. His soldiers, tired of Zhang Fei's drunken stupors and beatings, assassinated him while he was sleeping.

Liu Bei, hearing of the deaths of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, led an attack against the South for revenge. At Yiling, Liu Bei's 200 mile line of camps was burned down by Lu Xun, a Southland Commander. This was Liu Bei's last battle, for he died of anguish soon after. The later days of the Three Kingdoms period were sad indeed.

Ma Su was given orders by Zhuge Liang to take an army to Jieting, hide, and ambush the Wei troops. Ma Su, ignoring Zhuge Liang, led his army upon a hill for a view of all of Jieting. The Wei army saw Ma Su and attacked, defeating Ma Su. When Ma Su returned to Zhuge Liang, Zhuge wanted to keep him alive but knew that the laws apply to everyone, and wept as he ordered Ma Sa's execution.

Zhuge Liang was the greatest strategist of the Three Kingdoms period. At Wuzhangyuan fighting against Wei, Zhuge Liang, leading the Shu army, died of exhaustion. This was in the year 234 AD.

After Zhuge Liang's death, Jiang Wei didn't want Sima Yi, leader of the Wei army at Wuzhangyuan, to know about the death. Sima Yi heard rumors and advanced against the Shu army. In fear, Jiang Wei gave orders for a wooden statue of Zhuge Liang to be carved and put in front of the camp.

When the Wei army arrived, Sima Yi saw the statue and thought it was really Zhuge Liang, and retreated in fear. Even Sima Yi could never surpass Zhuge Liang's wit.
14. What did Liu Shan's suicide do?

Answer: It ended Shu

Liu Chan, knowing there was no way out but death, killed his family and slit his throat. With his death, Wei absorbed Shu, and Shu was no more.
15. What was the surviving kingdom in the end of the war?

Answer: Jin

Shu ended in 263 AD. Wei was taken over by Jin in 279 AD. Wu, fighting it out with Jin for a year, surrendered to Jin after the fighting and Jin brought China together. In 280 AD, the Three Kingdoms period ended.
