Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What kind of underwear was Tibby wearing after she took off her "brown dilapidated brown cargo pants" to try on The Pants?

Answer: lavender cotton underwear

Tibby was the first person to try on The Pants. She spotted them lying on the top of a pile of clothes on Carmen's dresser and wanted them. Carmen was surprised that she liked them because Tibby usually liked things that were ugly or challenging. The only reason Carmen had bought them from the secondhand store was because she was with Lena and Lena's mom and sister and she knew that Lena's mom hated secondhand clothing stores.
2. After Lena tried The Pants on, and looked awesome in them, she wanted Bee (Bridget) to try them on. Bee didn't want to because she said that she had enough jeans. How many pairs did Bee say she had?

Answer: nine

The only reason Bee tried them on was because Carmen had said "What, are you scared of them?" This was because stupid dares always work on Bridget. They fit her perfectly and looked great on her, just as they looked awesome on all her friends.
3. When they decided to have rules, Lena was nominated to write them because she had the best handwriting. Which sister decided to call the rules "The Manifesto" and said that she felt like a founding father?

Answer: Carmen

The girls decided on making ten rules, but it was hard to choose which ones. In the end, the main rules stated important things such as: The Pants must keep rotating between the girls, and that they must write to their fellow sisters througout the summer.

They also stated silly things such as "You must not pick your nose while wearing The Pants. You may, however, scratch casually at your nostril while kind of picking." My favorite one is "Remember: Pants=love. Love your pals. Love yourself."
4. The sisters chose the way that The Pants would rotate. They decided that they would go with Lena first, because Bee said that Greece was a good place to start. They also decided that after the first cycle was finished, they would go in the opposite direction just to mix things up. In which order did The Pants go?

Answer: Lena, Tibby, Carmen, Bridget

This summer was going to be the first summer they had ever spent apart and they were all kind of nervous about that. Their lives had always been marked by summers, except the Christmas that Bee's mom died. The girls had realised that before The Pants, they had never known how to be together when they were apart.

Then they realised that they were bigger and stronger and longer than the time they spent together.
5. When Tibby was on her way to work, at Wallman's, she was having a hard time carrying her wallet and smock under her arm. She decided to put on the smock about four blocks from Wallman's, convinced that she wouldn't meet anyone she knew. As soon as she puts it on, someone calls her name. It's the boy she thinks is the hottest junior at her school. What's his name?

Answer: Tucker Rowe

Rocko is a character from one of my favorite cartoon shows, "Undergrads" (which is not a children's show). Corey Matthews is another character from one of my other favorite shows, "Boy Meets World". Tibby likes Tucker because he had grown a soul patch under his lower lip and had an antique seventies car "that practically made her swoon." Of course, Tibby isn't exactly the swooning type of girl.
6. Towards the end of Tibby's first shift at Wallman's, what did she sell to a zitty thirteen year old?

Answer: two triple-A batteries

Tibby is the only one out of the four who is staying home for the summer and she feels alone. However, that will change when she meets Bailey, a twelve year old with a very different perspective on life. She thinks that Bailey is immature, but realizes that Bailey really knows what life is worth living for: the people that are "worthwhile" on the inside, instead of the superficial ones.
7. When Carmen's father mentions Paul and Krista's father, he says that he has a drinking problem and is at a treatment center in a different city. In which city is he being treated?

Answer: Atlanta

Carmen's dad is getting remarried and Carmen is very unhappy about it. It's partly because she was surprised with the whole thing, and partly because she feels that it's her fault that he left in the first place. She wants to know what was wrong with her and her mom that made him want to leave. Lydia is very meticulous in all the decorations and catering details.

This is because the first time she didn't get to have a proper wedding, because her mother died six weeks before. It is in part this precision and need for perfection that annoys Carmen.

It is also the fact that she believes that she is the outsider in what she thinks is her dad's new perfect family.
8. Kostos first sees Lena naked in the olive grove, where she takes a dip in the pond, while Lena saw Kostos naked down by the boathouse in Ammoudi.

Answer: False

They both saw each other in the olive grove. When Kostos saw Lena, she was swimming naked in the pond because she didn't have her bathing suit with her. Lena thought that he was so much in love with her that he followed her and spied on her and invaded her private place. But, when she sees him naked in the very same place, she realises that it was she who had invaded his space.
9. What did Molly, Bee's coach, say that made Bee make a mental note never to say?

Answer: "max it out"

Before the last game, Bee runs out of energy. She hadn't thought that her night with Eric would feel so personal. She thought it would make her feel powerful. In the end it didn't. She felt tired and exhausted. All of her energy had been drained.

She didn't play well in the final game and disappointment took over. This is what led to her drastic changing in the next book. She completely wants to get rid of the old Bee and replace her with a new, different, and what she thought would be better, Bee.
10. In the "Epilogue", the girls get together at Gilda's and celebrate the end of summer. Carmen is the narrator, and she says that Bee's toenails were painted with her favorite color nail polish. What is that color?

Answer: Turquoise

The trip to Gilda's marked the end of the summer. They all felt almost like strangers. The Pants were the only ones who had witnessed each one of their lives. They were the ones who brought them all together. They did what letters and phone calls could not. They joined together "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants".
